Tbh I think Paul Peterson could be a good fit.

Eastern Washington had the number 1 offense in FCS this year (ypg of 525). Not sure what their OC is like but could be worth a look.

I doubt Gary would bring back McGiven just because he wouldn’t hear the end of it but I’m also curious why everyone is so down on McGiven. San Jose had a great offense this season, particularly through the air. I mean his offense put up more points against Boise than any team has in a while (42). He did a super job with Josh Love the last two years as well. Wasn’t he also like national QB coach of the year in 2014 when he was at USU? I know Oregon State was a disaster but he didn’t have much to work with there. I think his first year there he was the only qb coach in the nation that had no one in the program with any game experience. They improved some the next year when he was promoted to OC ... then the wheels fell of the next year when Gary stepped down. I’m not sure what Kevin and Gary’s relationship is like. Gary roasted some of his assistants on his way out but not sure if Kevin was one of them or not. I wouldn’t be upset if McGiven came back but I don’t think it will happen.
No chance McGiven would work for Gary again after what happened at OSU.

Complaining about hiring a coordinator with experience that GA knows because of the good old boys network while thinking hiring a high school coach you know is a great hire is hilarious.
I'm surprised you are creating a straw man argument, GeoAg. Name one single poster who was complaining about GA hiring from the good ol' boy network while thinking he should hire "a high school coach".

You found it "hilarious", but it never even happened.
You are right. Just making a general observation about sentiments expressed in this thread.

Bouknight would be high on my list.
+1 That dude can recruit (was big with our Florida pipeline) and has learned from some great offensive minds.

According to the USA Today database, we Sanford's salary was $330,000...that is good money for a G5 coordinator. Its tied (with Ena) for 5th highest assistant coach salary in the MWC. We should be able to get someone experienced with that salary range.

Also, Dave Baldwin is currently available (read unemployed)...just saying.
Based on this article Bouknight will make $5k more as a wide receivers coach at Oregon as Sanford made last year.

So what do you guys want in a new OC? I want someone who uses multiple formations and shifting of personnel. I'd like a shout run game, I really liked the counter run play that we used this yr. Also someone who can figure out how to utilize Tompkins he needs at least 5-7 touches a game.

They sometimes call penalties on the defense for simulating the snap count, but would the refs call a penalty on the offense for shouting? The QB could get away with it, but I think they might call a penalty if the running back was doing it at the same time (pre-snap) as the QB. I guess if you are referring to after the ball is snapped, there is probably enough grunting going on that every player would be fair game at that point, I just don’t see it as a high priority. I would rather see our focus be on gaining yardage.

I disagree. I would love it if the offense started shouting at the other team during running plays.

I’d take a guy that is humble and willing to adapt to personnel and find ways to get guys the football in a position to make a play.

I don’t care about overall strategy so much, but when you have guys like Bright incessantly running up the gut is a problem. When we give up pick six after pick six on the same stupid play, is a problem. When you have guys like Scarver and Thompkins, you’ve gotta find a way to get them the ball. When your QB is constantly faking hand offs to an invisible running back, it’s a problem.

If we would have just handed it off to that invisible running back occasionally I think we would have done better in the red zone. I hear that trick play is difficult to stop.

It's funny because there are a lot of Texas Tech fans and boosters that don't like the work Yost did last year and want him canned.

I wouldn't mind him coming back to Logan one bit.

For those of you that keep bringing up Eastern Washingtons Offensive Coordinator Ian Shoemaker, he's hasn't even been on the job for 11 months. At this time last year he was the Head Coach of Division 2 Central Washington. Do you want to hand the keys over to someone who has has zero FBS experience and very little FCS experience?

My buddy is a Mizzou fan, and I guess they had Derek Dooley as their OC and he is out with Mizzou firing their last HC. Dooley could be intriguing. But he might get better offers- and seems to be more of a "south" type guy. But if you remember-he was at LA Tech for awhile and Tennessee.

Is he a part of Gary’s network? If not, you can be guaranteed he won’t be the guy hired. The hire will come from someone who is a part of Gary’s network.

I'd like a shout run game
They sometimes call penalties on the defense for simulating the snap count, but would the refs call a penalty on the offense for shouting? The QB could get away with it, but I think they might call a penalty if the running back was doing it at the same time (pre-snap) as the QB. I guess if you are referring to after the ball is snapped, there is probably enough grunting going on that every player would be fair game at that point, I just don’t see it as a high priority. I would rather see our focus be on gaining yardage.
I disagree. I would love it if the offense started shouting at the other team during running plays.
Could we get a RB who makes Bruce Lee noises as he runs? That would be a dream come true.

I envision a scene from "Enter the Dragon" and the scene in "The Other Guys" where Will Ferrell chases the guy around the office screaming and yelling at him.
