Thoughts on QB
I am a Henry Colombi fan, I have faith in him for next year.
But what about a quality backup?
You are only one hit away from needing that backup that can lead the team.
Peasly can run like a cheetah, but not sure he can throw at the level we want, maybe he can, I have not seen it.
Everyone else are unproven and very young and inexperienced.
In your opinions, should we be looking at the portal for a QB?
Hill from Colorado State for example, could push HC for the starting job,
may the best man win, and you have a quality backup.

Re: Thoughts on QB
I feel alright about our QB depth next season. I think it’s probably as good as it’s been at USU.
We’re not ever going to get a guy with a proven record as a QB to transfer in. Colin Hill is headed to South Carolina to be the starter. He’s transferring up.
That’s what the transfer market is like for a proven QB.

Re: Thoughts on QB
Not only are we NOT looking at adding another QB, we don't have room for one even if we wanted. The QB room is extremely crowded. Henry Colombi is a junior and I fully expect him to assume the reigns as the starter. We now have THREE redshirt freshman QBs as backups, Andy Peasely, Cooper Legas and Josh Calvin.
As has been mentioned, Peasley can run like the wind but he has never really been asked to air it out in an actual game. He's been okay in practice but that's mostly against 3rd team dudes. Cooper Legas is another dude that can get out and run but the plus with him is he is at least 10 to 15 pounds bigger than both Peasely and Calvin. Legas ran for over 1,000 yards and passed for over 3,000 in each of his last two years. Legas has been a winner his entire high school career and comes from a very good high school program. Josh Calvin could be a dark horse. He left high school built just like Jordan Love and has the frame to grow into a Jordan Love sized QB. He has a good arm that could become great and he is a good enough runner to force defenses to stay honest.

Re: Thoughts on QB
Jack Sears. He couldn't ever get higher than 3rd or 4th on the depth chart at USC. I'm in wait and see mode on this one. QBs are usually the biggest "busts" when it comes to living up to recruiting rankings.ThunderAggie wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2020, 9:26 amSDSU is getting a good transfer QB from USC. Columbi has looked good in mop up time but it is a different game when you are the guy and the opposing DC spends the week game-planing for you.

Columbi had a lot of reps in 2018, most of it mop up duty. However, Love was injured early in the Hawaii game and Columbi did play well over the last 2+ quarters.Aggieiester wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2020, 10:19 amColumbi has looked good in mop up time but it is a different game when you are the guy and the opposing DC spends the week game-planing for you.

Re: Thoughts on QB
Do you foresee any of the current RS QB's leaving once the QB hierarchy is determined over the next six to eight months? Or, do you think all three will remain in the running for the starter's role in 2021 regardless of their standing in 2020? Three of them are at the same rung of the ladder regarding eligibility, correct?aggies22 wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2020, 11:27 amHe'll be signing in February!aggieaggie wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2020, 11:20 amWhat happened with this guy?

Anyone know if Legas is possibly going on a mission? He and hunter hill?
A year ago I heard speculation that Legas MIGHT but he's almost 21 so I would say it's doubtful. I'm not even sure if Hunter Hill is LDS?

Re: Thoughts on QB
Has there been any indication that Legas could change positions? I know he was promised a chance to compete at QB, but I don't think he's gonna make it as a starter and he'd be amazing in a few other positions.aggies22 wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2020, 8:32 amA new rule will allow Andy Peasley and Andy Koch to remain redshirt freshmen for the 2020 season.slcagg wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2020, 5:31 amWho is the the third? I'd love to see what Peasley looks like at safety. Great size and speed for the position.

Not too long ago we would have given anything for the type of quarterback depth that we have enjoyed. Now most would rather see them farmed out to other positions. I don't get it. Remember when our QB depth was Travis Cox or Leon Jackson?

Exactly, back then the offensive linemen that we have signed in the last three years or so would have all started on those teams as true freshmen.KissMyAg wrote: ↑January 6th, 2020, 7:24 amAnd they didn’t have the kind of Oline depth we have now.aggies22 wrote: ↑January 4th, 2020, 4:24 pmI think several of you really underestimate Coops ability to play QB.YoungBloodAggie wrote: ↑January 4th, 2020, 3:15 pmHas there been any indication that Legas could change positions?
