Nevada
Just lost at SJSU. Does Nevada come in hungrier now and will this be a togher game or does it not matter?

If we don't win this. . . let's just win this one. No excuse.

We just got out @ss kicked by Air Force. Does that mean we come in hungrier?

Re: Nevada
The extra fire Nevada supposedly should have from losing to SJSU and the extra fire we should supposedly have after losing at Air Force should be a wash. Then again, maybe us getting blown out would do more to cause us to refocus more than Nevada losing a close one.

Re: Nevada
I sure hope we come out hungrier. What scares me about Nevada is their guard play. All 3 of their guards have had a 30 point game this season. They shoot the 3 ball as a team at ~38%. We cannot afford to have one of them go off for 30+ or we will be in trouble.

Re: Nevada
No one has really talked about it much but SJSU now has 2 top 100 NET wins. They almost had a victory over SDSU and played us really close. I wish they could have turned it around and got things clicking in the OOC play but definitely a good sign for their program and will be good overall for the conference.

Re: Nevada
The spread is up to 9.5. If Nevada loses, as expected, it will be a drag for their fans though not much of a game changer for a team picked to finish in the middle of the MW. But if USU loses? Yikes!!!

Re: Nevada
I think this schedule where we play one at home, one on the road, one at home, etc. makes it hard to get right. The team is traveling between every game instead of getting to stay a week or two at home to practice and get right.

Re: Nevada
How many people expected to be at the game? Is it anywhere near a sellout? I would expect quite a bit considering it is Nevada and students probably remember last years game.

Re: Nevada
That's why I posted months ago that adding a 12th team to make scheduling even for travel partners would be a great idea. You would have 6 sets of travel partners, and either be at home for both games a week or two, then on the road both games for a week or two instead of this one at home, one on the road.brownjeans wrote: ↑January 11th, 2020, 1:41 pmI think this schedule where we play one at home, one on the road, one at home, etc. makes it hard to get right. If we can't get Gonzaga, then go after Denver, New Mexico State, Pacific or Grand Canyon.

That just cuts a low revenue stream from 11 ways to 12 ways..

Re: Nevada
I agree that this makes it easier, but even without this there's still no reason the schedule makers can't make the teams do less one-at-a-time home road games. If our MWC people are to dumb to solve it by hand, get someone to set up an algorithm to solve it.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑January 11th, 2020, 2:50 pmThat's why I posted months ago that adding a 12th team to make scheduling even for travel partners would be a great idea. Re: Nevada
A 20 game schedule wouldn't have eliminated the travel issues, that just would have meant one week where we play in Reno on Wednesday, then come home to play New Mexico on Saturday. And 12 ways instead of 11 wouldn't make a big difference, especially if it saved on travel costs with teams having to buy five sets of plane tickets a year instead of 9 and played two games on a trip to Colorado.
The format of the old Big West was great and there is no reason to not add a 12th team to use it. The format would go:
Six sets of travel partners. Each team misses one set of travel partners on the road and one set at home. Everyone spends five weeks on the road and five at home, four weeks of two game road trips to face a set of travel partners and four weeks of two game home stands to face, along with two weeks of only one game against your travel partner, obviously once at each site on either Friday or Saturday. I can still remember the Big West days when we would play Idaho as our only game in a week.

Re: Nevada
In the Big West it was 2 games against the 5 other teams in your division. Then you played 6 against the other side..3 at home 3 on the road..
I liked it a lot but it means only 16 games and you guys are lobbying for a 20 game schedule..
Might be a way to make it work but I don't see how to do it equitably..

Re: Nevada
The travel partner thing is problematic too..
Say the conference adds NMSU. They would pair up with UM. WY and CSU works. But then it gets a bit more dicey.
There is nobody close to AFA. That would most likely mean you as their travel partner..
Boise out to the west division could pair with NV though they are pretty far apart.
SDSU and UNLY is okay
FSU and SJSU is not horrible but not great either..

Spot on brownjeans, right you are and way past time for the MWC schedule making creatins to pull their heads out and quit breathing methane.brownjeans wrote: ↑January 11th, 2020, 7:36 pmI agree that this makes it easier, but even without this there's still no reason the schedule makers can't make the teams do less one-at-a-time home road games. Re: Nevada
There is no easy or efficient way to make this conference work for non football sports. The travel is ridiculous, particularly for the non revenue sports.

You could have
New Mexico/ New Mexico State
Wyoming/ Colorado State
Air Force/ Utah State
Boise State/ Nevada
UNLV/ San Diego State
Fresno State/ San Jose State
Like in the Big West, our travel partner was Idaho. And while the trip was hard for everyone that would play in Moscow on Thursday then in Logan on Saturday, it was still a heck of a lot better for those teams than if they had to travel to Moscow and come home for a game at one point in the year, then had to travel to Logan and come home for a game at another point.
While teams would have to get on a plane on the Air Force/ Utah State road trip, it would be more ideal for Fresno State and San Jose State to just travel to Utah to face us on Thursday, then swing over to Colorado to face Air Force on Saturday, along with another trip to Colorado to get in both the Wyoming and Colorado State games, as opposed to currently taking four trips for those four games. San Jose State and Fresno State are a two and a half hour bus ride apart, but busing two and a half hours on Friday is still more ideal that one flight out west for each game. Boise and Reno are too far apart to justify busing, but it would be far more ideal for, say New Mexico, to just fly up to Boise for a game on Thursday, down to Reno for a Saturday game and home, than fly up to Boise and Reno from Albuquerque at different points.
One set of travel partners in the Big West that were far apart were Pacific and Cal State Northridge. While traveling between Stockton and Northridge on Friday was a long day, and we did both the long bus rides and short flights different times, that was far more ideal than separate trips back west from Utah to play those than these one at home, one on the road weeks.

Re: Nevada
I don't see how 12 schools works with the 20 game schedule..
They could solve the problem with a 22 game conference schedule, I guess..
There just isn't any one way to make all this work efficiently.

Re: Nevada
This is a bit off topic, but did anyone else notice Nevada's uniforms? Particularly their shorts. They were more like gymnastics shorts that basketball being very skin tight on their legs. Looked odd to me. I wonder if this will catch on with other teams. I have noticed that the style pendulum has swung back some from the baggy almost below the knee shorts to mid thigh for a lot of players.

I have seen a bit of that over the last couple of years. I don't know if it will become a thing. We are an Adidas school now..Maybe that played a role.
