No. The decision to hire Gary was hasty.

Re: Was the decision to fire GA hasty?
Was for sure the right call. Look at the product he put on the field this year as well as uninspired blow outs last year. Look no further than the QB debacle and judgement he used on this. I know people will say that he did force Henri to leave, but his judgement that Shelley was better than Henri was a total lack of judgement. I love Gary for what he did for the program the first time around, that being said they way it turned out this time has set us back 2-3 years.

One player away? We had that one player, and he just left the team.

Yeah, one player on each side last year. Jordan Love on offense, and Woodward on defense.

I now see what you were saying, but my response was saying that Shelley (we had the one player that) was sufficient to make us worse than anyone could imagine.

Re: Was the decision to fire GA hasty?
It was probably a decision Hartwell wanted to make for a long time. I know the op was a big supporter of bringing back Gary, but it was faulty from the beginning. His time at oregon state should have been a warning to everyone that he wasnt 2009 gary.

I’ve been the biggest supporter of GA and staff until now. This is ridiculous and frankly is out of control. No, it was not hastySmokin Joe wrote: ↑November 15th, 2020, 5:39 pmOpinions on whether the firing decision was premature/hasty?

No, the right decision was made at the right time to give us a chance to get things turned around for the future.
I still respect Gary and appreciate all he did for the program under Gary 1.0 starting with the Auburn game that we almost pulled out. The board has been too negative towards him in the mode of what have you done for me lately, and even if he had very good assistant coaches and was in a weaker conference, what he did during his first coaching stint here was amazing and really turned things around for our program.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Re: Was the decision to fire GA hasty?
Gary Andersen 1.0 will *ALWAYS* have my respect, admiration, and gratitude.
Gary Andersen 2.0 was simply a very different person, and was causing damage long term, not driving improvement.
In hindsight I was totally wrong on his hire.
Splitting ways with Coach Andersen halfway through the season gives the AD time to find the right coach, that is a valuable benefit. This year is/was going to be total loss anyway, might as well maximize what little benefit one can. It was time.

Re: Was the decision to fire GA hasty?
If it was to the point that it affected his ability to successfully do his job, then it matters and is a relevant topic for discussion, IMO. If he was sauced all the time, including on the job , then it's relevant.JonnyCienPesos wrote: ↑November 16th, 2020, 3:48 pmWhat does it matter and why should that be a topic for discussion here?troutputz wrote:Did Gary have a drinking problem?

I have no clue whether or not he had one - but I can see how it would be discussion worthy if he did.

Re: Was the decision to fire GA hasty?
There is also relevance if his problems were clear before he was given the job and he was given the job anyway. It isn't like this is his first weird exit. I dont want to dig deep into his personal issues, but it sure looks like this was a bad hire from the jump.Aggie702 wrote: ↑November 16th, 2020, 4:56 pmIf it was to the point that it affected his ability to successfully do his job, then it matters and is a relevant topic for discussion, IMO. The hire was taken out of the hands of the people who knew better. Knowing he had problems before wouldn't have mattered.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑November 16th, 2020, 5:06 pmThere is also relevance if his problems were clear before he was given the job and he was given the job anyway. Re: Was the decision to fire GA hasty?
Pretty sad that we have posters going after someone who regularly passes along credible information about our coaching search. GA may have some personal demons I don't know, and don't really care at this point.

No seriously, I thought I saw on Twitter that Jonny has no socks. Not that I care if the guy wears sock, I just thought it was interesting. When Jordan graduates, and we have a new coach, can you come back and tell us the story?
