Embarrassing

Post by ineptimusprime » November 25th, 2020, 9:47 pm

Run out of the gym by a bunch of VCU freshman picked NINTH in the A-10. Wheels really fell off.

Don’t think we are a contender in the MW.

Rollie was a bright spot. Marco was a major disappointment.

Chill. We proved a couple years ago that preseason rankings mean next to nothing.

it is one game let's not fall off the cliff yet. Our back court was really impressive for 30 minutes and then the wheels fell off. I thought the Worster and Ashworth were solid. Anthony to me was really disappointing with not only his handle, but his defense was not great. We missed a floor leader the last 10 minutes. Queta was solid, but his free throw shooting was bad. Bean was really good until the last 10 minutes. We will get better.

We played decent for about 30 minutes. The last ten minutes we needed someone to step up where San used to. No one did and we got smoked because of it.

Oh and for the 20th year in a row we can't break down a full court press opening night.

Rollie is gonna be good but I think we are being too hard on Anthony. He only scored 6 yes but Rollie had just as many turnovers. Anthony had 5 boards and a steal. He will be fine.

Anderson looked really bad tonight. I had high hopes for him, but both sides of the ball he was not great.

We’ll get it figured out. Easy to see we need to tighten the rotation

We'll be fine but our youth in the backcourt was on full display with all those turnovers. Bean had a couple costly ones as well.

My beef was when the refs stop calling fouls on VCU for a long period of time starting in the 1st half. We made VCU commit so many fouls in reality that VCU should have had their coaching staff ready to suit up. Refs wanted VCU to win, and they got their wish.

Of course we’ll be fine.

I want us to be good. Good teams don’t get run out of gyms by VCU freshman picked Ninth in the A-10. Even if VCU is the best team in the A-10, this is still a bad loss for a team that wants to be in the NCAA tourney.

I guess I apologize for being a fan.

That is a fair take. I guess it came down to expectations for me from Anthony. I had really high hopes based on people said he performed in practice. On the other hand I did not know what to expect from Rollie being a true freshman and though he played solid. I think Anthony will figure it out. In order for him to be effective he looks like he needs to the rim, his deep shot is not his strength.

We look like we didn’t have a plan. We fell out of rhythm and had no plan to get back in it. Our offensive sets were wild out-of-control and panicked.

Massive field goal droughts and bleeding turnovers in full court press situations isn’t anything new. Difference was that we had Sam Merrill.

My question is if we have a guy who can create his own shot.. Not saying we need another Sam, but who are turning to in crunch time to get a bucket or end a scoring drought? I just don’t see it yet..

But hey, season is young. No need to get worked up.

Yes I noticed this and is frustrating. Both halves got in bonus and at what seemed like in first 10 minutes and then what typically happens when one team has more foul calls we would get a stretch of foul calls on us and nothing from them. Pressing teams are always active with hands and body and stopped getting some of those calls. Definitely not blaming officiating. We missed to many FT, got in a bad stretch and could not get out. Credit to VCU for turning game around. I think they will be a surprise in conference. I believe in the coaching staff and seems like we have some bright spots. Need to shot better and play better D

I think that is a good point. Who is going to hit a big shot in crunch time or when we are struggling. I think we have some solid players that will step up, but just know who that person is at this time. I am confident in this team and still think we can be really good. Excited to see them play tomorrow night.

One was a freak accident with the ball bouncing off his leg, and the excessive contact by VCU made it hard for everyone.

What was really maddening with this was the fact that the VCU players would have fouled out, and we had Worster almost fouling out and lost minutes because of fouls. We had a number of weak fouls called on us which was maddening too.

On the bright side, SDSU looks very good in their game against UCLA. They are athletic and are playing awesome defense.

I love Craig. One thing Craig could be a lot better at is using timeouts.

This game reminded me of the Air Force game last year. We seemed in control in both games, then the other team went on a run and it snowballed very quickly. That maybe doesn’t happen if coach calls a TO earlier. Both are terrible losses.

I guess most don’t expect us to compete for a tourney bid, or more would be upset about the Q3 loss we just took in pants-crapping fashion.

To me we played that last 10 minutes like we hadn’t had any practices against any kind of defense. They didn’t have any exhibition games this year and it showed I think.

I think we will be fine, coach played a lot of players tonight and that makes it hard to get in a flow, which we have today to complete against very athletic teams. Our freshman played well, but also made freshman mistakes. Smith will tighten the rotation, we will get in a flow and do pretty well. Excited for the season

No fouls until VCU had a good lead looks like clear bias. We had a number of weak fouls called on us.

We had embarrassing losses last year too but figured things out. This is a young team and they made showed it at times tonight. They also showed at times what they are capable of. Craig will figure it out.

This is accurate. I was impressed with the freshmen for the most part. I agree Craig will figure it out to some extent and we’ll have a respectable team.

I just don’t think VCU is a good team, which has me pretty concerned for the rest of the year.

I think my expectations of us being a conference contender and bubble team are probably a bit too high. I think we’ll know for sure tomorrow if we lose to South Dakota St and VCU gets drilled by WVU. Expectations will be readjusted downward, and I will stop freaking out.
