Re: Cockett comments from sources to channel 2.
Sounds to me like she was referring to Jay Hill or Jeff Grimes. Unless something else was said, I feel this has been blown way out of proportion. It still might take Cockett down, which is very unfortunate.USUallyAGGrIvatEd wrote: ↑December 16th, 2020, 11:23 amhttps://kutv.com/news/local/witnesses-o ... eT5WZf3u1Q

I am confused when she says, "we tried that and it didn't work." What is she referring to?

"What do we say to outside people who ask us about hiring an LDS person from Utah? We tried that, and it didn’t work."
You say you think he’s the best person for the job. Who cares what outside people say or think?! And who cares if Other LDS candidates from Utah didn’t work? Although I don’t think she meant to discriminate or say anything offensive, her points are irrelevant and stupid. All she needed to say was that they felt they needed a head coach with more experience and a history of winning consistently.
Do I think she should be fired or sued? No. Do I think she said something really stupid? Absolutely.

Re: Cockett comments from sources to channel 2.
As I said in another thread, if players who were on the call are being interviewed about the situation and why the team cancelled their last game, don’t you think they are going to bring the worst, most damning part of the conversation so they can justify their actions?
If this is then the worst part of the conversation, this whole thing is ridiculous.

"What do we say to outside people who ask us about hiring an LDS person from Utah? We tried that, and it didn’t work."
Outside of what? Who are these people, why are they asking about an lds person from Utah? That seems relevant to the context
My interpretation is more she is speaking against a religious test - and the ”outside people” asking the question is the one applying it. “We can’t hire someone just because they are an in-state Mormon”.
Also screw kutv for using such a bad picture of Cockett

Re: Cockett comments from sources to channel 2.
Maile was an in-state Mormon and it was failing. What if the context is
Maile’s agents: Why not maile? He’s a Mormon from Utah.
Cockett: we tried it and it didn’t work.
I really would like actual context.

Channel 2 doing lots of digging. More articles:

Agree that context is everything here. Seems she is responding to a statement or question posed by the players...

So are the other 80 students concerned with what they heard about the zoom call since they weren’t there? I’m not convinced the survey is even relevant... I wonder how things are worded and what info these surveyed students were able to access beforehand.

Re: Cockett comments from sources to channel 2.
They said previously that they the players requested the meeting and that the players suggested that one reason that he would be a good fit is because of his religion and because he is Tongan. I'm sure she was addressing the religious part of it. If this is the extent of it then I'm not sure where they get the race bit, which would be a much bigger issue.MoTownAg wrote: ↑December 16th, 2020, 1:33 pmChannel 2 doing lots of digging. If this is indeed the correct context then the players are hearing what they want to hear if they are accusing her of any prejudice. She wouldn't be saying that his religion is disqualifying him in some way, but that it is not going to be a factor in getting him the job.

Re: Cockett comments from sources to channel 2.
The comments still don't make sense.
To me, it sounds like the players brought it up?
And yes we can't hire someone just because of their religious beliefs or culture (or not hire someone because of them).
Ultimately I was on the Frank train until Air Force. We didn't adjust and his decision to punt on 4th and 1 was awful.

At this point we've heard about everything we're going to hear about the zoom meeting. Now I'm waiting for the identity of the Player who did the survey and organized the boycott to come out.
How close do you think his relationship is with Frank?

The article said Heninger made the survey. Not sure who started the boycott thought/discussion.

For example this one:
""Dr Cockett SEEMED to be INSINUATING that Coach Maile was not fit for the job because of certain aspects of his background...We were pushing and advocating for him and she had REALLY NO SOLID EXCUSE OTHER THAN HE HASN'T HAD THE WINS HE MIGHT'VE NEEDED"

How is this alarming? This is a President of the University that probably knows very little about football. How is this "that bad"?Donman wrote: ↑December 16th, 2020, 2:19 pmFor example this one:

He's the one that put together the survey... survey was worded in a way that pushed the players answers in the direction he wanted. Looking more and more like the ring leader... or one of them.....

I disagree to a point. to me it all comes down to who brought up Coach Maile's faith first in the conversation.ViAggie wrote: ↑December 16th, 2020, 2:59 pmVerrrrry bad lookingsplintorb wrote: ↑December 16th, 2020, 2:58 pmVerrrry interesting...
If the players brought it up saying that Maile being Tongan and LDS would be a benefit to recruiting, to which Cockett simply provided a rebuttal, then Nick and the other players look bad for overreacting.
However if President Cockett was the one to bring up Frank's faith first, then she's in the wrong. No matter how you spin it, one's personal faith should never be a factor in deciding who to hire for our football coach. Period. If this is how it went down then I think Nick did a good job putting it all together and bringing it to light. He did a good job gathering data, and working with his team while not coercing them into anything.

Re: Cockett comments from sources to channel 2.
I can't see why she would bring his religion up if the team didn't bring it up first. If she was the first to bring up religion then she probably should be a university president. No one who has ever hired anyone would do that. That's against the law.AggieUprising50 wrote: ↑December 16th, 2020, 3:24 pmI disagree to a point. to me it all comes down to who brought up Coach Maile's faith first in the conversation.ViAggie wrote: ↑December 16th, 2020, 2:59 pmVerrrrry bad lookingsplintorb wrote: ↑December 16th, 2020, 2:58 pmVerrrry interesting...
