Re: What's our QB Situation
Am I overvaluing Peasley or are you undervaluing him? We both agree he's not consistent. What I'm arguing is that with the right coaching, right system, better protection, and weapons he'll develop that consistency were looking for.GeoAg wrote: ↑December 21st, 2020, 2:23 pmWR is a concern, but it won't matter how good they are if the ball isn't thrown anywhere near them. We could have NFL caliber WRs all over the field right now and not move the ball consistently because we are so poor at QB. You all are overvaluing what Peasley brings because he is here already. He has a lot to prove to me about being consistent with his throwing ability before I will be comfortable with him. He looked great against UNM. He looked horrible in every other appearance with the exception of the first drive against AFA. These were cases of not getting the ball out and not getting it near the open receiver when it did come out. He has potential, but not enough to bank on. In Jordan Love's first games you could see the accuracy that he brought. I have seen nothing close to that from Peasley.AggieUprising50 wrote: ↑December 21st, 2020, 2:17 pmWR is a bigger concern than QB. Especially with Thompkins goneGeoAg wrote: ↑December 21st, 2020, 2:16 pmI agree. Peasley has some strengths an makes some great throws. He is no where near consistent enough to be the starter to a good team. We can hope he improves, but hope isn't a plan. We need to bring in people at QB more than any other position on the team IMO.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑December 21st, 2020, 1:45 pmSorry guys, I think we need a starting QB in the worst way.
As for Jordan Love's freshmen year, he had a great game against UNLV, but he looked average against every other team, with the exception of Wyoming where he looked BAD (3 int's). However, he had the potential to be great and the coaches stuck with him and helped him develop into a first round QB.
Now I'm not saying that Peasley is going to be the next J-Love or even an NFL qb, but I do think he has potential to be a top 3 qb in the conference and help us win. But just like how we needed to give Jordan time to develop, we also need to give Andrew time to develop as well. We also need to focus on surrounding him with a good supporting cast and give him the best chance to succeed. And if I'm wrong then we replace him, and I'll admit I was wrong, but at least the next guy will have a better chance to succeed as well.
If we keep hyper focusing on the quarterback and not the real issues of the offense, we are going to keep having the same results no matter who's under center.

Re: What's our QB Situation
Utah has Cam Rising waiting in the wings (a 4 star transfer from Texas), and yet they bring in Charlie Brewer from Baylor that has 40 career starts, and also Ja'quinden Jackson, a former big time recruit that's another Texas transfer.
Yet, we're worried about bringing someone else in on top of Andrew Peasley & Cooper Legas?

Re: What's our QB Situation
Peasley has some serious accuracy concerns. He missed throws by a mile. That has to be a concern. Accuracy doesn't just develop that quickly with a new coach.

Why would so many QB's join them at once? They have seen how well Utah develops quarterbacks and gets them NFL-ready. They bring in Brewer to compete directly with Rising and Jackson was brought in to be developed. It sounds like a decent plan to me.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑December 21st, 2020, 4:20 pmUtah has Cam Rising waiting in the wings (a 4 star transfer from Texas), and yet they bring in Charlie Brewer from Baylor that has 40 career starts, and also Ja'quinden Jackson, a former big time recruit that's another Texas transfer.

What about Peter Costelli? He is a 4-star qb they signed as well. They are pretty stacked. Even their walk on 7th stringer Cooper Justice is a decent 3 star prospect. I don’t know how with their poor qb history that they can get all these dudes to sign.aggies22 wrote:They bring in Brewer to compete directly with Rising and Jackson was brought in to be developed. Are you wishing we did things with QBs like Utah does?Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑December 21st, 2020, 4:20 pmUtah has Cam Rising waiting in the wings (a 4 star transfer from Texas), and yet they bring in Charlie Brewer from Baylor that has 40 career starts, and also Ja'quinden Jackson, a former big time recruit that's another Texas transfer.

I will never do that. If my son was a good HS QB and Utah came recruiting him, I'd try my best to steer him nearly anywhere else. Utah is not a program to model when it comes to QBs.
Having said that - if we can get a transfer who was a former starter, was good as a starter, and has the talent and leadership to get the team's support, bring him.

Re: What's our QB Situation
QB in general is an increasingly stacked position in FBS as every team only has starting slot, with more and more good prospects coming out of HS.
We should be an appealing landing spot for a lot of guys.

I don’t want to be a debbie downer here, but do we like him? I remember watching a couple ucf games when milton was injured and i wasn’t that impressed. Kind of reminds me of shelley. Re: What's our QB Situation
Have you watched a lot of Bonner, 22? Curious why you are a “no” on him? Stats seem pretty good, and seems like a guy with a chip on his shoulder (i.e., some Aggie DNA). In the few highlights I’ve seen, he throws a decent ball.
I mean, you can call me crazy, but I’d be much more excited adding a proven D1 QB starter to our QB room than some Jake Heaps empty calorie “star” guy that was buried on the depth chart at a middle of the road P5 school. I mean, how often do you hear about a guy buried on the depth chart at a P5 transferring down and just killing it a G5? I can’t think of any examples, though I’m sure there are a few.

Re: What's our QB Situation
I've gone back and watched every A-State game I could find from this season and I do think Bonner would be an upgrade over what we curently have but that is not saying much. He looks fairly accurate and gets the ball out quick but he doesn't jump out as someone that a defense needs to game plan against. I would sum up his tape as a QB that is a game manager with serviceable skills. What does jump out on tape is that he had a collection of WR's that would be considered elite to ours (and most other teams) which made both of their QBs look better than they might be.
I think Bonner would be okay at USU if he were surrounded by a lot of talent at the skill positions. Currently we dont have that so we may require a QB that can make things happen on his own sometimes and shoulder a little more than simply managing the game.

Re: What's our OL/DL Situation
Once we have a functional OL and a DL who can break down the pocket? Our QB will look really good, and our coach will look really smart.
We've had discussions about recruiting DL. Seems like someone said GA felt like those big guys are hard to get, so we settled on LB's.
That's a mistake and it shows

It all starts up front, if you don't have the O line, you don't have a QB or receivers.
Timing is off, routes get cut short, et al.
I wont judge Peas until the line can do a bit more than they did this year.

Re: What's our QB Situation
I get supporting “our guy”, but the truth is Peasely is just another decent athlete trying to be a quarterback. We need a quarterback that is a quarterback. You can’t blame everything he does poorly on the other positions all the time-poor receivers, poor line, poor coaches, blah, blah, blah. Does he have any responsibility on him to be able to throw to receivers and be somewhat close? He could be an excellent wildcat type guy, though.

Re: What's our QB Situation
Peasley is definitely a QB, but a QB with accuracy issues. He is nowhere near a Shelley or Myers bad in the sense that he has good pocket awareness and QB instincts.afausu wrote: ↑December 22nd, 2020, 7:12 pmI get supporting “our guy”, but the truth is Peasely is just another decent athlete trying to be a quarterback.
