Has Gary said anything at all?
Sorry for bring this up, but I am really curious. There has been complete and total radio silence on anything Andersen since his very surprising firing. I am not expecting tons to be said, but typically a fired coach will at least release a public statement after being fired, something to the effect of "Unfortunately things did not work out the way we would have liked...wishing the players all the best...thank the school for the opportunity...looking forward to what the future brings". Gary also had a very good relationship with the SLC media and there seems to be nothing there. Gary went from being a USU hero and regular in the SLC media, to seemingly disappearing into a black hole in literally one day. I would really like to hear how he is doing, what his thoughts are on what happened this second time around, and what he has planned for the future.

Re: Has Gary said anything at all?
I asked John Hartwell about this yesterday while at Starbucks. He said “I think your orders up,” I turned to look, it was a Pinkidy Drinkidy so obviously not mine. When I turned around there was just a puff of smoke and Hartwell was no where to be found. 🥷swordsman1989 wrote:Sorry for bring this up, but I am really curious. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Re: Has Gary said anything at all?
I'm just going to assume that there was a "for cause" component to his firing. It is the only thing that makes sense. If that is the case, I wouldn't expect anyone to say much. Probably neither side has much interest in bringing whatever it is to light.

Re: Has Gary said anything at all?
I've heard rumors that it was for cause and others that said he wanted out, but asked to be fired to save face after the Oregon State stuff. Just rumors though, I can't say if they're even remotely accurate.
Either way, I wouldn't expect him to say much.

I think Gary has some issues he needs to work out, nothing I've heard just a hunch.

I saw Gary at Walmart in Logan on a couple weeks ago. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.
He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”
I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like forty Ute visors without paying.
The girl at the nearest register was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the register.
When she took a visor off of the top and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each one and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.
He paid her in crumpled cash and change. After he left, she realized he had paid 8 cents of it in Canadian pennies.

Re: Has Gary said anything at all?
I think this is exactly why he has seemingly disappeared from the face of the earth and the local media has let him do so. His issues are personal and because of his good relationship with members of the SLC media they have honored the request to let it lie.
If he coached in a larger market where he did not have long-time media relationships I think his name would have been drug through the mud on this (similar to the Oregon St. debacle). No one outside of Utah knows enough or cares and no one in Utah is willing to push buttons.

Re: Has Gary said anything at all?
I'm just going to remind us all why some things don't get said or explained in the hard-nose football coaching world:
https://www.espn.com/college-football/s ... s-30-years
https://shoutengine.com/BehindtheMind/e ... -coa-98657
I'm not saying Gary suffers from any such condition, but he *might* be suffering something and if that's true, when he's ready, he might choose to explain himself. But frankly he doesn't owe us anything given how our society still sadly perceives mental illness.
Again, not saying Gary suffers from such. But if he is, listen to our very own Brent Guy for some insight. I, for one, am proud of Coach Guy for coming forward as an example and advocate for mental health along with his grace and generosity in sharing his experience.

Re: Has Gary said anything at all?
I know nothing, but there has to be an element of "for cause" at Oregon State and at USU. Sorry, I'm not going to buy a guy so willingly forgoes his buyout at both schools in the middle of the season early in his tenure. And he would be right not to, especially at USU. He got fired 3 games into his second season. No way he would just accept that with no buyout unless there was something up beyond football which I would imagine there was. Something is up with Gary and I wish him the best dealing with it.Mr. Sneelock wrote: ↑January 4th, 2021, 9:35 amI'm just going to assume that there was a "for cause" component to his firing. Maybe eventually he'll do an interview on 1280 with Scotty G or Monson and talk more about his situation.

Re: Has Gary said anything at all?
If you paid ANY attention around here you would know that I was a rock for Gary after Oregon State, dude and I played a lot of FIFA, killed a ton of Oreos, laughed, cried, and became better men for it. Gary 2.0 was a different man. I’d see him at functions and he’d pretend he didn’t know me. I’d show up at his house and he would send the misses to the door to tuen me away. John knows all of this that is why he was so quick to duck me at Starbucks.Aglicious wrote:I thought you and GA were tight? no? Re: Has Gary said anything at all?
Funny when I met Troy Calhoun he saw me wearing my Aggie pull over. He started asking me about how old I was because being older makes you inherently better at football.
Being respectful to our service academies I asked him what it’s take for him to understand that me being older has nothing to do with football- and that my uncoordinated self has 0 chance at being good at football.
He said about treefiddy.
