Big game for Queta and Miller. Proud of the boys! Undefeated in conference play...let’s go!

Definitely the best win of the season so far. Let's do it again a couple days from now!

The key stats
We held the top 4 scorers for the Aztecs to 31 points, and the rest of the Aztecs combined for 14 points.

still mad that we were held to just 57 points. we have to do better. Who am I kidding? I loved everything about that game. Ashworth's spark off the bench on the first half was probably my favorite part. The separation made then held up the whole game.

There’s not a game we can’t win if we play defense the way we have

Part of that is the fact that the Aztecs had 0 shooting fouls. The 2 FTs was on a tech.

I found the game more enjoyable to watch because of so few free throws. I liked the way the refs called the game even if they had a couple boneheaded calls. It does drop the score though when there aren't many FT attempts.

Agree. They botched a few, but overall a well called game. I like it when they let 'em play and don't whistle the ticky tacks.

The Show Twitter account is priceless.

After SDSU owning our souls the first few years in the conference, it is nice to be living rent free in their heads now.

Back to back tourney champs will do that!

Ashworth’s energy and fearlessness really infected the rest of the team in the first half. I thought he was outstanding tonight.

Now, a sweep would be huge. SDSU is about to go on a huge tear feasting on the weaklings in the conference until they face BSU (even if Mitchell is out).

Our NET ranking will be the business if we can notch two wins against these guys.

I am happy with just the one though too, basketball gods.

There is a saying in hockey “the two goal lead is the most dangerous in hockey”, I feel that way about aa 7/8 point leas in hoops. Mid 2nd half made me nervous.

Awesome game with tremendous defense. We did have a few miscues, but they were few. It was interesting to watch a couple of those in which the Aztecs had open looks they passed on to work into a couple of really bad shots. And Ashworth's energy was big off the bench. I hope Mitchell's alright and will be able to go strong on Saturday.

Love the energy and GATA mentality. Such a luxury to have Queta roaming the paint and Marco is a tough perimeter defender. We have a really long team. They are playing really well. All 7 MWC games have been won by double digits. Granted first 6 were bottom 1/4 of league but they are destroying teams right now. Keep it up, next three could be huge. No idea if Mitchell can go early Saturday

Important that the TO didn’t lead to easy buckets.

Crazy stat of the game with the amount of fouls none were shooting and without Technical they would have had 0 FT yet still won by 12

Really quick turnaround potentially for Mitchell. Never want to see a major injury.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see SDSU run off 10 in a row after Saturday

The Fonz was huge late in the first half, when Craig was trying to take him out. Queta was a beast.

I gotta say, I think the win here came down to Queta. Yes, I was probably most psyched about Ashworth's energy. Fonz had those momentum 3s. Miller was excellent. Dorius played with aggression and didn't back down. Worster made some killer passes. But this game was about Queta. He rocked the defense, he pushed SDSU around, set the tone with those early steals and his momentum block, and all around looked every bit a future NBA player.

Awesome win tonight. I love how our defense is playing. We are giving up very few wide open looks. They are playing so hard. On offense it was tough, although they are good defensively. Need to fix our turnovers and not get stagnant on offense. This game showed that the aggies have a good team. I am just so excited with how together this team is. Saturday will be super tough, but I expect the aggies to play really well. Smith really is a good coach, we are lucky to have him. Love the way the bench played. Ashworth is just so pesky and get's after it. The 2 threes by anderson were huge. Bairstow played really well tonight.

You can tell how much our players and coaches prepare for matchups. How they play the screen and roll specifically and differently for each player, how they sit heavy on the player's weaker hand, and how they try to force them out of their comfort zones.

I just watched the replay of the game. As we know Queta and Miller were the heroes. I like Worster, and he’s a scrapper, but he gets himself into a lot of trouble driving deep into the lane with no where to go and no one to pass to. Bean and Anthony had less than steller offensive games but boy their defense is great. Anderson hit a couple of big shots. I am not yet sold on Bairstow. Ashcroft is the Ever-Ready Bunny but a couple of the threes he launched were head-scratchers. Dorius is a serviceable back-up center.

SDS’s perimeter defense was great but so was ours. Their players are quick and long. Queta is a human eraser and when we are on defense our players can overplay their man and protect the lane and dare the offensive player to go baseline and run headlong into Queta.

BTW, I don’t like the prevent offense strategy that we employed when there was about 3 minutes left in the game. A 30-foot shot from the elbow with the shot clock at 2 seconds does not a good set make.

We can’t expect SDS to have another terrible shooting game on Saturday so we’ll need more scoring from Anthony and Bean. If Miller can keep up shooting 40% from downtown and Queta has his usual intimidating game we will have the sweep.

I noticed this as well. They really felt comfortable overplaying the strong hand of SDSU players. We were just baiting them to try to go into the lane with their off hand to face Queta. It wasn't done to every player, so you can tell that Smith had them scouted very well. Both of these teams are excellent defensive teams. Fun to watch offenses struggle a little bit to get open. Its refreshing.

It felt like we were looking in a mirror. Two very good defenses and rebounding. Miller stepping up was huge. He was the difference maker. Anthony and Bean played great defense on Mitchell. That was a great game by our guys.

Couple side notes:
we only had 2 FTs and they came on a technical. I love the refs letting them play but I get the feeling we'll see the exact opposite on Saturday. I'm going to guess no less that 30 FTs between the two teams.

Who is tracking blocks? They only had SDSU down for 2 blocks, 2! I can think of at least 4 that Menseh had. They had USU down for 4 which is probably close, but you can bank every game on Queta getting cheated out of 1 or 2 blocks.

The charge call on Rollie Worster was one of the worst charging calls I've seen in a long time. Menseh is leaning right with the right leg completely bent, and he's a good 2 feet into the circle. Worster is also fading out of bounds to avoid contact and in control.

I agree. Anthony should've gotten called for the push off late in the second half for example, but I'm especially obsessed with charge calls in college basketball and how inconsistently they are called. This one I mentioned should've been an easy one. It was also a huge play because Bean had a layup during a critical part of the game.

Also found it odd that Queta could get Kobra Kai'd by Mitchell without a call, and then shortly after Dorius got called for doing the same thing.

I especially liked how every time SUDS would get to within 5-8 points, we would hit a big shot or two to push the lead back out. SUDS only really made one run in the game, and that was right at the start of the second half.

If you watch the replay, the official (bob staffin) who makes the call, is not even looking at the contact under the basket, he makes the call without even glancing over
