Fouls?

Post by ryguy417 » January 21st, 2021, 10:56 pm

Way too many whistles tonight. Horrible officiating. Let them play for crying out loud.

This game has not been that physical for there to be nearly 40 fouls to be called. 1 foul per minute by the end of this game. If we lose, it will be partly because we can’t hit a dang free throw either. Oh yeah, or a 3.

The foul shot shooting has been awful...

The play where Neemy’s outlet pass was deflected changed the whole game. Would’ve been a 6 point lead for us, but instead led to his third foul.

Hard to believe that they have 4 guys with 4 fouls and now the whistles stop? Took us 8 seconds to get an intentional after 3 hard swipes too. I call a Technical Foul on this officiating crew. MWC should review this game.

Dude...that pissed me off more than I could explain...

They didn’t call a hard swipe on Miller under the basket, but call a foul on Queta a full 1 second after and shooting...

I'll give credit to Colorado in this one they dealt with the officiating as well as they could. I only saw the second half but man that was rough. There was no rhythm for either team due to the constant whistles.

We lost because we couldn’t make free throws and we were completely out coached. How many minutes can you play Ashworth when he has a ton of turnovers and can’t make a damn shot? And why in the hell is Fonz not playing more? He is better than Bean.

Rant over

The refs really wanted Colorado State to win no doubt. The dead give away was the many blatant non-calls on lane violations on free throws along with everything else (I know that sounds silly, but it is easiest call in basketball). Colorado State's Roddy arm bar offense and the over the back rebounding was crazy to watch. Colorado State knew that they would get away with everything too which was the really strange part. I have never seen so many push-offs, over the backs, lane violations, and etc. that were not called and all of the non-calls were for Colorado State players. The refs intentionally ran something 10-15 of the last 35 seconds to seal the game. Remember the CSU that went out of bounds (4-5 seconds ran off the clock after the play was over ) then something of 8 seconds of hard swipes to get a foul called.

They hit shots. We did not. The last 12:00 were brutal. The refs took control.

Yes good call. We were really taking control. Running pretty good O, had them in foul trouble and playing good D. Neemi got steal and was a little slow with pass got deflected and led to 3rd foul.

Huge turn of events

That was a big change of momentum. The one foul that pissed me off was in the 2nd half when they called the offensive rebounding foul on queta. He was not over the back and he reached and had good position.

I agree on Roddy he went 15 min and got one foul call. We were way up on foul calls against them and we missed our FT then we chucked up outside shots and they made hustle plays and hustle plays and shots.

Fouls 2 and 4 on neemi were terrible. Game turned on loose ball Neemi got when we were up 4 and had Worster for layup. Pass was deflected they got it and Neemi got 3rd foul. Went from up 6 to Neemi out.

We need to find some inside game or ability to take our man off dribble and get into lane if Neemi is out.

A problem we will have is teams can play off Rollie, Bean and Anthony taking drives away and not let Miller shoot - where is offense going to come from when that happens?

Twice by Anderson who is usually really solid at the line.

The fouls were frustrating for sure but there were poor anticipation calls on both teams. I thought we should have gone with Anderson a bit more than Bean. You put Fonz on the block and there is no one on CSU that can stop him. He is stronger than everyone, including Roddy, and can score with either hand.

The game really changed on Thistlewood's 3 pointer with about 6:30 left to put them up 4 points. We had 4 Aggies that didn't get a rebound and Roddy got it and kicked it back out. I don't think that happens if Neemi is on the court. We waited far too long to put him back in the game. He didn't go for blocks toward the end of the game with 4 fouls anyway so he could have done the same for a longer period and at least been in there for rebounding.

The other thing that no one seems to be talking about is having Anthony foul out. Not only did we miss his defense and rebounding ability but he would have been the answer to their zone defense. We needed someone to penetrate or work that top of the lane area and create for others but he was out for the game when they went to it. That was brilliant by CSU because they knew we couldn't hit an outside shot all night. They just dared us to shoot from the outside.

Your 2nd point is spot on about the offensive rebound to Roddy that set up the 3. One more that killed us is Fonz biting on the pump fake on Stevens' 3 point shot. Just put your hand up you 8 inches on him. If he makes great, but don't give him easy points as he is the best free throw shooter in the conference.

Anthony is really struggling to finish around the basket. He seems like he has lost a lot of confidence in his shot. Hopefully he can get back to finishing strong around the rim and hitting his mid range shot.

The refs made the game hard to watch indeed but we have only ourselves to blame for missing front ends of free throws, chucking up lazy 3s, and some bad luck like the Queta steal, deflected pass and 3rd foul all happening at once. We killed ourselves with all the self inflicted momentum stoppers which led to desperation when we were in an uncomfortable position, and all that gave Colo St a boost in energy that was obvious during their 14-2 run to go up 67-60 and put the game away. But, yes, the refs in general made this game difficult to watch for both teams. I liked the SDSU first game where there were 23 total fouls, not 23 per team. Let the boys play so the game has a flow.

It doesn't happen very often, but we got a little out-coached as well. We weren't ready for the zone they threw at us late at all. 3 straight times down the floor we attacked the zone with no spacing at all and everybody on one side of the floor. Take note because I doubt we see it a team be able to take advantage of us tactically like that again.

we also had no prep or plan for thomas. No one saw him coming in and doing what he did in the 1st half. It really threw Queta off his defensive groove for a while.

If we can spread the floor I feel confident with him going 1 on 1 against his man, but as things currently stand when he drives he has to worry about a guard digging down and a help defender coming behind his man. It's just too crowded inside the 3 pt line for him to be effective.

And did Anderson even touch the ball after his mini-run? We can't be mad about Roddy not fouling out when I can only recall one instance after he had 4 fouls that we attacked him head on.
