Conference Seeding
With CSU and SDSU both with 3 losses, as of right now, is CSU in first place? They split with each other but CSU also split with us while SDSU was swept by us. Doesn’t that put SDSU in 2nd place?
I know CSU still has to play Nevada and could lose that game but they would be in first right now right?

Re: Conference Seeding
I think you are right with the Boise loss tonight. Otherwise if Boise was tied for 3rd with us, then Boise wins the tiebreaker with USU and SDSU wins the tiebreaker with CSU. Now Boise lost i think CSU wins the tiebreaker for the #1 seed.

Re: Conference Seeding
Boise was already a game behind us before tonight, now they are 2 games back. After the SDSU series, they were in 4th. Tonight’s game doesn’t really change anything for us other than we can lose one and still be in 3rd.Coloraggie wrote:I think you are right with the Boise loss tonight. So right now we are looking at SDSU in the semifinals. I’m not a huge fan of that matchup but it would give a good opportunity for a quality win and wouldn’t be counted a bad loss by any means.
My conspiracy theorist in me would think after Boise’s slip up tonight that the refs would be on our side in that game so that we could solidify our at large chances since SDSU is already locked in. A CSU-USU final would give the best results for the conference. But alas, the conference doesn’t control the refs.
It would just be one heck of a matchup. They would be very motivated as we are their last loss and swept them. I will say, Queta definitely got the better of Mensah and Schakel gives us a good matchup for Miller. Last game, they started using Schakel to iso on Miller and was getting the better of him but I think we should be able to figure something out and then throw in Shulga to mix things up. It’s Mitchell and Gomez that worry me more than anything else.

Re: Conference Seeding
According to the bracket from the MW website, the 2 and 3 seed are on the opposite side of the bracket from SDSU. We’d only see the Aztecs in the final:scotlandog wrote: ↑March 3rd, 2021, 12:19 amBoise was already a game behind us before tonight, now they are 2 games back. Re: Conference Seeding
That would be true if SDSU is the 1 seed, but as of now CSU is the 1 and SDSU the 2, by virtue of the Rams' split with USU.Madmartigan wrote: ↑March 3rd, 2021, 5:06 am* * *

If the Rams sweep their makeup week games with UNM and UN, they're the 1 seed at 15-3 (SDSU can only get to 14-3). If they split and SDSU beats UNLV, SDSU (14-3) is the 1 and CSU (14-4) the 2...unless we sweep our games with UW and FSU, which would put us at 15-4 and the 2, and CSU the 3.

Re: Conference Seeding
Interesting. A win tonight and SDSU is the champ. They are counting the New Mexico games as forfeits for tie breaking purposes

So if SDSU beats UNLV tonight, we have no chance of a shared regular season title. SDSU will clinch the one seed and at least a share with CSU.

Re: Conference Seeding
The conference counting the cancelled SDSU/UNM games as some kind of pseudo forfeit that only counts for conference tournament seeding and doesn't go into the actual record books is so stupid. Either UNM should have played those games or not (they should have). If a team pulled that crap any other year it would be 2 losses for UNM and 2 wins for SDSU. It's similar to the cancelled USU/CSU game which ended as a W for CSU...let us never speak of that travesty again.
I also think the games Wyo cancelled against us should be forfeits, but them claiming health and safely in the Covid year makes that more awkward to do.

Re: Conference Seeding
This is good news meaning that we avoid SDSU until the final and get CSU in the semis which seems a better matchup. Of course, we have to beat UNLV or whoever first.

Re: Conference Seeding
This is the first I’ve heard of the winning percentage as being the tie breaker. I know other leagues are doing that but didn’t know we were as well. That’s the key to this whole SDSU in first business. Well, let’s win out!

Re: Conference Seeding
SDS was the beneficiary of two non-COVID related forfeits from NM. Wyoming opting out of games with USU were deemed to be for “health and safety” reasons (who knows if that meant COVID reasons) and so those games were not deemed to be forfeits.

Also does anyone know if the Wyoming game is even happening? As another poster pointed out in the BSU thread I believe the MW site is showing our game on Thursday and Cancelled

I just looked. The game is still a go. The only cancellation was the UNR vs. SJSU game for tonight.

Re: Conference Seeding
The MW seems to have fixed it some time this morning. When I woke up it was still listed as canceled but it shows the start time now.SpectrumMagic wrote: ↑March 3rd, 2021, 8:50 amAlso does anyone know if the Wyoming game is even happening? I think all of these SJSU games should be forfeited as well. They’ve canceled the Nevada and Wyoming series and now the Nevada again.

Re: Conference Seeding
The rest of their regular season games were canceled because of Covid but they should be back for the MW Tourney.

They better be the 11 seed if they skip out on the last month.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑March 3rd, 2021, 9:09 amThe rest of their regular season games were canceled because of Covid but they should be back for the MW Tourney.

Re: Conference Seeding
Per this thread (scroll down to the bottom) they had a positive Covid test when they arrived in Denver to play Wyoming on 2/24, and the entire team has had to quarantine in Denver for 10 days, until March 6. No indication that they won't play in the MWCT.

Re: Conference Seeding
They're locked in at the 9. They're done at 3-13, AFA is 10 and finished at 3-17 (the only team to play its whole schedule without postponements), and UNM is 11 at 2-14. Even if the Lobos upset CSU, they'll only move up to 10 (assuming their forfeits count against them, they'd be 3-16.)slcagg wrote: ↑March 3rd, 2021, 9:09 amThey better be the 11 seed if they skip out on the last month.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑March 3rd, 2021, 9:09 amThe rest of their regular season games were canceled because of Covid but they should be back for the MW Tourney.

Re: Conference Seeding
This is correct. The BSU loss also eliminated the 4-way tie scenario. A 3-way tie is still in play if, by some miracle, SDSU and CSU both lose this week and USU wins both their games. In this case USU would actually be the #1 seed due to being 3-1 versus the other two (CSU 2-2 & SDSU 1-3).ineptimusprime wrote: ↑March 3rd, 2021, 7:22 amSo if SDSU beats UNLV tonight, we have no chance of a shared regular season title. Re: Conference Seeding
Is it? CSU will have one fewer game than SDSU (counting the UNM forfeits) and USU. CSU could end up 15-3, 14-4 or 13-5. SDSU can only end up 16-3 or 15-4; USU can end up 15-4, 14-5, or 13-6.Aglicious wrote: ↑March 3rd, 2021, 10:23 amThis is correct. The BSU loss also eliminated the 4-way tie scenario.
