Re: Big name in the transfer portal
The MW is losing some of the young talent. It will be interesting to see how everything plays out over the summer.

Re: Big name in the transfer portal
The guy you all thought was going P5 from NAU is heading to LMU along with Marble.
Seems Stan Johnson can recruit the transfer portal. May be unlikely he comes here considering how hard he’s recruiting for LMU right now.
Hopefully there’s still some good players left in the portal by the time Hartwell stops playing paddy-cake with his college buddies and gets a hire made.

Great turnaround and proving he can recruit.

Re: Big name in the transfer portal
Unfortunately, the fact that he is killing recruiting the portal right now for LMU suggests he may not actually be a candidate, except in lists on this message board. I agree though, I think he’d be awesome here.

Wyoming's former head coach (the one that recruited Marble to UW) is now an assistant at Loyola Marymount.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑March 31st, 2021, 11:04 am
So if/when we hire Stan Johnson, does Marble come here

Not saying he is a candidate but I’d bet the ncaa would clear them to move if we were to hire someone in that situation.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑March 31st, 2021, 12:37 pmUnfortunately, the fact that he is killing recruiting the portal right now for LMU suggests he may not actually be a candidate, except in lists on this message board. I believe this is the son of the assistant coach at Utah that got his job so that he'd bring his son along. If he is in the portal, it's an interesting dynamic.

Actually Rylan Jones is the player of Chris Jones who was on staff there. He used to be on staff here under Stew. I haven't heard for sure what is happening with his job or his son.SectionBAggie wrote: ↑April 6th, 2021, 7:30 pm

Re: Big name in the transfer portal
Actually there were two assistant coaches with sons on the team. Jones was one and Martinez was the other. This is the son of the other coach. I assume this means Craig isn’t retaining his dad.aggies1 wrote:Actually Rylan Jones is the player of Chris Jones who was on staff there. He used to be on staff here under Stew. Re: Big name in the transfer portal
This is kind of interesting in that the U updated their website and scrubbed Jones and Tommy Connor from their website. Martinez is still listed as the only assistant. Obviously Slocum and Peterson haven't been officially named. Odd that maybe dad is staying and the kid entered the portal.

Probably because he doesn't fit into Smith's "culture." But seriously is he worth USU pursuing?

Yeah, even if Smith had stayed I don't think there was any chance we were getting him.

Re: Big name in the transfer portal
I know it isn't popular to say anything nice about Musselman on here, but the dude has flat out mastered the transfer portal. Other than one and done Moses Moody, three of the top 4 scorers on the Elite 8 Arkansas team this past season were transfers. I know many on here don't like it, but this is just the new way things operate. Hopefully Odom is a good recruiter not with high school talent, but getting guys in the portal.

You know what they say about outliers. It may all be legit but regardless of where Eric M has been he gets the best transfers and those stops include Reno, NV and Arkansas.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑April 9th, 2021, 10:46 amI know it isn't popular to say anything nice about Musselman on here, but the dude has flat out mastered the transfer portal. 100%. North Arkansas is very nice. And fayetteville is in that bentonville (Walmart headquarters) and that area is super nice.Aggie formerly in Hawaii wrote: ↑April 9th, 2021, 11:43 amArkansas is actually a really underrated state. And I've never been to a game there, but I hear the game experience at Bud Walton Arena when Arkansas is good is one of the better venues for a game in college basketball.slcagg wrote: ↑April 9th, 2021, 11:45 am100%. I don't know. Musselman might not be on the up and up, but Arkansas is a program with potential. They were one of the premier programs in the country in the 90's and beat Grant Hill and Duke in the national championship one year.

It's interesting, with all the attention being on the transfer portal, maybe the smart approach would be to focus heavily on high school talent. You might be able to find some gems that were otherwise overlooked. Same thing for junior colleges - just a thought.

Re: Big name in the transfer portal
The problem with recruiting freshman and the current environment is you likely won’t keep them 4 years and so you have them in most cases in their most inefficient playing years.
