Biggest reason I'm sad he didn't commit here is because of how punctual he was.

Well, it’s part of the recruiting game, you win some and lose some. I feel like we are in a better place as a program on many levels than SMC, but there are a lot of factors. A kid from vegas would likely favor SMC’s location, and the coaching continuity there has been impressive. I feel like our recruiting this year has been better than any time in the last 25 years. Looking forward to see what our young talent brings to the table this year.

Nah, it'd be a kick in the nuts if he chose UNLV. Disappointing he chose St Mary's over us, but I don't feel out of sorts. It's a good school with a great trajectory. Plus, have you been to Moraga? It's breathtakingly beautiful.

If I am 100% honest, based on the highlights I’ve seen, both Jefferson and Berg look like borderline D1 players.
Given the choice, I’d probably go with Berg just cause he’s massive.

I agree. However, Berg has offers from Illinois and Perdue, so I must be missing something.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑October 16th, 2021, 7:26 amIf I am 100% honest, based on the highlights I’ve seen, both Jefferson and Berg look like borderline D1 players.

I disagree. We want to the mwc to win as many of these head to head recruiting battles vs the pac12 and wcc as we can.Real Life Aggie wrote: ↑October 15th, 2021, 5:36 pmNah, it'd be a kick in the nuts if he chose UNLV. Both are far more athletic than I am, but both appear to be on the unathletic side for D1 basketball players. If we are taking someone athletically limited, I’d take Berg just because he’s huge enough to make up for it.LarryTheAggie wrote: ↑October 16th, 2021, 7:33 amI agree. Might honestly just go with SLCC JUCO Quincy McGriff though.
In Odom we trust, and if Berg’s our guy, I’ll trust coach.

Re: Basketball recruit final 2
Can you illuminate all of these reasons?
I wasn’t super impressed with Jefferson’s highlights, and we lost out to a peer basketball school in a better location. I am not that disappointed for those reasons.
If this guy was our top target and we lost out on him, it makes you wonder if not having a single african-american on the team played a role in his decision. That’s really the only scenario this could be a kick in the nuts rather than a minor speed bump.
But honest assessment is Jefferson is a “tweener” size-wise and isn’t athletic enough to overcome that and be a real impact guy at the D1 level. Wish the kid luck at SMC.

We'll just have to kick St Mary's in the nuts on December 2nd for it.

It was never an " we will take one" option. We wanted both. Jefferson is a 4, Berg is a 5. Jefferson really impressed late in the summer and in years past, would have been a power 5 recruit. But, with the transfer portal, power 5s don't recruit that many high schoolers any more. In fact, Arizona was trying to get in late on him.

Agreed, it's not like we only have one scholarship to give.bpd wrote: ↑October 16th, 2021, 9:06 am

Of note he is also visiting Purdue this week who hosts Iowa. I did not realize Purdue is currently ranked number 2.

The Purdue vs Iowa game is a Friday night matchup of undefeated teams. I’m sure the environment will be awesome in Mackey Arena but hopefully the Spectrum can also bring it tomorrow. It’ll be hard to beat out the Boilermakers for Berg but perhaps we can offer him a bigger role and immediate playing time.

Re: Basketball recruit final 2
My concern with William Berg is if he is a coveted recruit, he can't sign an LOI until April. That allows for plenty of time for other schools to get at him.

Watched their game yesterday at home vs Florida State, it was impressive. Obviously pretty fired up with their team and their ranking. Great crowd. After reading the post earlier I thought, I hope that kid wasn't at that gameAGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑December 1st, 2021, 6:41 pmThe Purdue vs Iowa game is a Friday night matchup of undefeated teams. A conference foe on a Friday night it will be even better. Anyways we will be fine either way with what he decides. But we have plenty to sell at usu.Aggie19 wrote: ↑December 1st, 2021, 7:09 pmWatched their game yesterday at home vs Florida State, it was impressive.
