Re: Wells Fired at TT
Whodahell fires a coach that is 5-3? Especially a stanky, bottom-of-the-barrel P5 like TTU?
Sounds like an institution that lacks a bit of self-awareness about what it is and where it is (Lubbock is the worst city in the Country).

He was a good coordinator when he was exclusively a coordinator and not trying to also be a HC. He did very well at OC in 2012.Sl7vk wrote: ↑October 25th, 2021, 1:05 pmI would take Columbi back.CaptainChaos wrote: ↑October 25th, 2021, 12:57 pmMaybe Wells can send some recruits our way.

As for Wells, he tripled his income at TT. I don't think the Tech expectations are unreasonable. They expect to have bowl eligibility and a winning program.
Kingsbury was 6-7 and 5-7 in his last two years.
Matt was 4-8, 4-6 and about to finish 5-7 this year. For that kind of record, you don't need to pay 3 mill a year.
I'm not really sure what is next for Matt frankly. Best case scenario for him would be a G5 coaching job, because he was not a good cordinator.

I can't criticize a successful MWC coach from wanting to succeed at a higher level, but how many have done so? One as I recall - Peterson from BSU to UW. I'm probably missing someone, but there were about 3 successful BSU coaches who lasted but a short time at the next level. Harsin (sp?) is still under the microscope.. i would hope that Blake understands this fact of life. Where oh where is Dick Romney?

Re: Wells Fired at TT
where's Yost at? The article says he was gone after 2020
Sources on Monday told FootballScoop in the immediate aftermath of Wells' firing that Sonny Cumbie would serve the remainder of the 2021 season as the Red Raiders' interim head coach.
A former star quarterback at the school, Cumbie was hired just last December as the Red Raiders' new offensive coordinator....
Wells parted ways after last season with Red Raiders offensive coordinator David Yost, among other staff change

Re: Wells Fired at TT
I really like Wells, however, I prefer coaches who are hungry to win and get a P5 job and a paycheck.
That was my one reservation when we hired Blake, was he looking to just get away from Arky St? Or is he looking for a resume boost so he can get a bigger program.
So while I do like Wells a lot, I rather USU not take any coaches who are "settling down" .

Re: Wells Fired at TT
They'd absolutely be nothing more than an MWC team if they hadn't been getting all that Big 12 money. I honestly think USU would look like Texas Tech if we'd been getting Big 12 money and had conference mates like Texas and OU to drag us along for the last however many decades.Yossarian wrote: ↑October 25th, 2021, 12:52 pmIf Texas Tech thinks they are going to ever be a major player in college football, they had better check themselves for sanity. It may be a little easier for them to compete in the new, watered down Big XII, but they are not much more than a Mountain West team on the national scene. They have ridden the coattails of Texas, TAMU, and Oklahoma for a lot of years and that has given them some sense of worth. They won't find anybody better than Wells to take that job and whoever they get, the best they will get is a 9 win season every once in a while.

He's owed 70% of the money left on his contract for termination...roughly $7.1M... must be nice. I wouldn't mind seeing him end up in Logan in some capacity. I think he and his family truly do like Logan and he's a good ambassador for USU.

I bet that if Wells came to Logan this year, it would likely be as an offensive analyst. Thing is, unless his kids want to change schools mid-year, they'll likely stay in Lubbock through May.

Not too bad at all, originally a 6 year $18.8 million dollar contract. Two and a half years into that deal. Not a bad payday at all.

I don’t get firing coaches in the middle of the year, makes no sense unless the coach is simply a distraction or there is a bad personal issue it’s bad optics foe the school as well, good luck finding a decent replacement now.

Re: Wells Fired at TT
I'm aware of an investment vehicle that pays a pretty safe 8.88%. If he could put $6M of that $7.1M in, he'd get over $500K a year interest only, and that's over $44K a month.
I could cut some corners. Eat catfood. Get by on that. Couldn't you?

Adding to that, Lubbock, Texas has to be one of the hardest places to recruit to in all of D1 football. Maybe he will come back and help coach the Aggies offense as some sort of volunteer.
I wish MW and his family the best.

The key term here being "pretty safe". The S&P 500 is 100% equity risk. "Pretty safe" investment returns are lucky to yield around 3% right now.apo wrote: ↑October 25th, 2021, 4:30 pmhttps://www.fool.com/investing/how-to-i ... et-return/Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑October 25th, 2021, 2:59 pmPlease enlighten the rest of us on this investment vehicle paying a pretty safe 8.88%??

The last coach fired at Tech is now the head coach of the only undefeated team in the NFL. That tells you everything you need to know about how hard it is to win in Lubbock

Matt's a great coach and an excellent person. I hope he lands on his feet, and if I were a P5 team looking for a coordinator, I would be ecstatic to have him. He makes his players better.
That said, I don't know how I would feel about him returning to Logan. Perhaps if it were in a mostly advisory role I could get behind it. I just think it's really tough to come home, especially this soon after the fact.

Was he really a good coordinator or did he just have the luck of having some pretty stellar players on the offense? Buy and hold stablecoins on Crypto interest websites like BlockFi.com (8.25%), Celsius.Network (8.88%), or Nexo.io (10%, they're a bit newer).Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑October 25th, 2021, 2:59 pmPlease enlighten the rest of us on this investment vehicle paying a pretty safe 8.88%??
The risk is largely that it's not a bank and thus not FDIC insured (it's an interest account, not a savings account). If the company goes under it takes your investment with it. Also, there's always a risk they could be hacked, though they take pretty strong security measures.
Stablecoins are in the crypto world, but most are tied to the dollar either through actual 1:1 backing or algorithmically. The risks are not that a stablecoin will suddenly tank in value, unless the issuing company was hacked or went under.
(Not investment advice. Do your own research.)
