FRESNO, Calif. — Dominik Eberle hit the walk-off winner.
The Utah State field goal kicker hit a 30-yard field goal as time expired to give the Aggies a 37-35 victory over Fresno State on Saturday night at Bulldog Stadium.
Down by a point, USU got the ball back with 3:05 to play and drove from its own 47 to the Fresno State 12 to set up the Eberle winner.
With the win, Utah State improves to 5-4 overall and, more importantly, 4-1 in Mountain West play.
Here are three takeaways that defined this game.
Love bounces back
Aggies quarterback Jordan Love has struggled in recent weeks, but that wasn’t the case Saturday night. The junior finished with 388 passing yards and two touchdowns on 30 of 39 passing.
Trailing 35-34 in the fourth, Utah State had an impressive drive that reached the Fresno State 1. On the 14th play of the drive, though, Jaylen Warren was stuffed for a 4-yard loss on fourth-and-goal at the 1-yard line, giving the Bulldogs possession back with 5:19 to play.
USU led by as many as 14 points early in the second half, but Fresno State used three straight touchdown drives, the last Bulldog score coming with 14:11 left in the game, to take the lead back at 35-31. With the Aggies needing to rally, USU held Fresno State to three-and-out twice and 13 total yards on its final two drives. The final stand gave the Aggie offense enough time to drive for the winning field goal.
