LOGAN — It was the single greatest shot in Utah State men’s basketball history.
By now, the players, the setting and stakes are well-known, but here is a quick refresher. Under three seconds remained in the Mountain West Conference Tournament championship game, held at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas on Saturday, March 7. Utah State star Sam Merrill had the ball just past mid-court, guarded closely by San Diego State’s KJ Feagin.
The game was tied at 56 points apiece. All Merrill needed to do was drill a well-contested shot and he’d give the Aggies the victory, not to mention, consecutive tournament championships.
Which, of course, he did.
For a shot that will go down as the greatest in program history, lifting the Aggies to a 59-56 title-game win over the No. 5 Aztecs, one viewing is certainly not enough.
So here is another.
And another.
And another one.
And finally, one more.
Perhaps better than all the videos, though, was this call made by 1280theZone’s Scott Garrard.
