Technically Chuckie was invited to the Texans minicamp for a tryout.

Thnx. Is 10 guys a new record high in the modern era?

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I don't know if the 10 guys is a new record, but I'm pretty sure 7 of our defensive starters is a new record. That starts to make me a little more nervous when you look at those numbers. That's a lot of our defense from last year.

I'm trying to figure this out and I think Taani Fisilau was USU's only non returning starter who didn't at least sign a FA deal. Is that correct? If so, absolutely incredible. And what a disappointing season last year.

Even crazier when you think that 3-4 of these free agent guys have a legit possibility to make a roster. Hunter Sharp is the obvious one but Evans, Moala, and maybe even Filiaga if his achilles is back to 100%. Robinson is intriguing with his speed and underutilization due to the QB situation.

I don't think I would put invitations to rookie camps on the same level as a free agent contract...

So, according to this http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/houston-texa ... ie-keeton/ Chuckie has signed a 3-year contract with the Texans worth $1,620,000.

Unfortunately, I don't think that is what they call a front loaded contract. Do they even have a signing bonus for the mini-camp tryout?

Sure. All I'm saying is that this is the typical kind of contract the UDFAs get. SO, it seems he's being treated more as a UDFA and not simply as a player invited to mini-camp for a tryout.

For the undrafted free agents, why are some designated as mini-camp signings and some not? is mini-camp like a quick tryout to see if they want to keep you around, but if you are not designated as mini-camp they plan on taking a longer look at you, putting you on the practice squad, etc.?

The issue is the number of USU players in a year getting a serious sniff by NFL teams, not the difference between free agent contracts and mini-camp invites.

Sheesh.

Chuckie signed a free agent deal with the Texans today after playing well during the mini camp.

It was announced on multiple sites that he signed a free agent contact several days ago before the mini camp. Was that misinformation?

Good for him. He has a long road to stick to a roster, but I wish him the best in following his dream n

Here's a nice little video from the Packer's site about the Fack. I'm gonna miss that guy.

There is a difference between getting a mini-camp invite and a free agent deal.

Yep. But I'm saying that it was announced several days ago that he had signed a 1.62 million dollar free agent deal (non guaranteed). It was announced before mini camp started.

It was reported on this site as of May 2.

And here's a tweet from May 2nd saying that he signed the deal.

The other issue is that Mini-camp didn't even start until today. So I don't think he could've impressed them in mini camp before it started. :noidea:

There is zero risk to a team for signing someone to a free agent deal where none of the money is guaranteed and there is a $0 signing bonus. It simply locks the player up in case they pan out through mini-camp or other preseason activities. If they think Chuckie has any shot at making the team it's in their best interest to sign him. Zero risk move, and they get him guaranteed at the league minimum for 3 years if they want him.
