Happy Opening Day!

Post by sam tingey » March 28th, 2024, 3:59 pm

On a snowy, cold day today, I will celebrate by watching the Giants lose to the Padres.

Yes, I know baseball is boring and you don't care, so no need to reply

I am a huge baseball fan. Today has been/will be a very entertaining day with Aggie “news”, MLB opening day, and Sweet 16 games. Almost like a holiday.

And the O's start off the season with an 11-3 victory. I was a little surprised at some of the personnel decisions to not bring up guys that are ready for the bigs. We'll see how this goes in the early season. This organization is loaded with talented position players - the Triple A team could probably finish above 1/3 of the MLB teams. Corbin Burns with a gem of a first game.

It's baseball session!! Let's enjoy the summer.

Told my wife to pull my two boys out of school early today so they could watch the Angels game. Poor guys.

Hopefully right after that Trout homerun. Just let them pretend it ended 1-0.

The O's look like they have a stacked system with Gunnar doing amazing things at the big league level- not to mention Jackson Holliday.

I really hope the new owner is willing to keep guys around. The Angelos family hated spending money on a team that could compete. The good news is that many of those players still have many years of team control

I have a friend that lives in Phoenix. He texted me a photo from the ball park last night. He said he had missed just one opening day of Diamondbacks games since 1998.

Holliday led off the AAA game with a jack to right. He ended up with 3 hits (1B, 2B, and HR) and a sac fly on the night. First four batters on the Norfolk Tides (Orioles Triple A affiliate) went a combined 11 for 21 on the night. There are probably 6 position players on that roster that could be in the bigs, plus a couple of pitchers.

The next 4 or 5 years will be interesting in Baltimore. Reward for a decade of sucking.

Is it bad that I browse box scores and watch highlights of minor league baseball games on a nightly basis in the summer (I even follow the low-A ball affiliate)?

What a story! Dude is 30 wasn’t supposed to make the team- but injuries happen and he makes the roster. Starts his season with a no-no!!!

105 pitches in the first start of the year is a lot. Hope it doesn’t hurt him down the road.

I am guessing the Astros are treating this as playing with house money. You have a guy that is getting older and could never break into the league. Why not ride that horse until he drops if he's pitching well? He want in the original plans, but if he can save the bullpen and early in the season, that's a win. He's not getting younger.

Got to enjoy the home opener for the Cubbies on a rooftop across Waveland. Inside the park homer…with three errors…yikes. Game was frigid and wet for the second half but still good to have baseball back! With all that said…Go Braves!!

I had to come back in here after tonight's Norfolk Tides (Baltimore AAA affiliate) game. Take a look at the stat line for top 5 in the order for the game tonight. Then look at the batting average and OPS on the young season.

They are averaging over 12 runs per game. This is like whiffleball stats.

It was made even worse in the next inning when the ump called strike three on Casas a ball and then the next pitch he hit over the Green Monster for a two-run homer. That was a three run swing on bad umpiring.
