Re: Asst coaches
My main concern is that if 2 guys from his previous staff are coming, why did it take two weeks to get them here? That tells me that those that were interviewed simply weren't that interested. I make no claim to know the mind of Coach Smith, but just to offer you an alternative possibility, maybe C...

Brady's little brother is transferring from Boise State. Averaged 4.3 mins, 1.6 pts and 1.2 boards a game for them. Some were disappointed he picked Boise over USU initially. Here is the (now-locked) thread when he made his initial decision: https://www.usufans.com/Forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=42013&h...

Re: Update
South Dakota is hiring Grand Canyon assistant Todd Lee as its new head coach. Since they aren't promoting from within, I would imagine that means all of Coach Smith's assistants with him at SD are available to fill similar roles at USU (assuming Smith wants to bring some or all of them with him).

Re: Presser Notes
We will likely never know but I am curious about what happened at CSU and why they didn't hire him. How do we know he didn’t turn them down? We know Stew left CSU because of better support in Logan. It’s not unreasonable to assume that Coach Smith felt like the support at CSU was lacking in some wa...

Re: Contract?
$650,000 is more in line with Mountain West Conference teams. I always thought $375,000 was too low. Agreed - for comparison's sake, CSU gave their new coach (Medved) a 5 year deal at $700,000/year (with annual increases of $25K). CSU is also paying Drake a $425K buyout (and are still paying Eustac...

Re: Gonzaga isn't joining the MWC
WCC did announce today they are getting rid of two conference games (so teams can play two additional non-conference games), plus reinstating the double bye in the WCC tourney, two things Gonzaga wanted. If you are correct, then Gonzaga was using threat to go to MWC as leverage in negotiations with ...

He was an assistant under their former coach (Miles) for 6 years. I'm guessing that is big part of why they are willing to select him, but yes, I agree, it seems like a big risk.

$$ from NCAA tournament
Each win by a MWC team during the tournament means more $$ to the conference. It looks like Nevada and SDSU have earned USU an additional $100K to date (since we don't have a beat writer, I'm getting the number from the UNLV beat writer - and I'm assuming it's the same number for all the non-tourney...

Re: Pac12 - Wow
Unless Nevada can come back here, MWC is going to go 0-2. I know we aren't a P5 conference like P12, but we need MWC to win some games in the NCAA to 1) earn the conference more TV $$ and 2) reinforce that we deserve to be a multi bid league. PS - if Nevada loses, is Gonzaga the last western team re...
