Re: WBB Coaching Candidates

I would look at Randy Rogers at the College of Southern Idaho. Just qualified for the 4th straight year to the NJCAA tournament. 500 plus wins. Aggie alum. Know how to recruit and coach. Rebuilds his roster every year with 5-7 freshman and still wins. I talked to him last year when he was down here...

Re: WBB Coaching Candidates

Aaron Johnston at South Dakota State would be a great get but after 24 seasons there and tons of success, I’m not sure he’d leave considering he hasn’t left yet despite all his success. Molly Miller at Grand Canyon has done nothing but win. She’d be a great candidate. I think there are 3-4 Big Sky ...

The Football Life episode about the 1993 Houston Oilers is a must watch for football history buffs. Also interesting from an organizational leadership perspective, even if you don't care much about football. There has been nothing like that 1993 Oilers team ever before not since. Perhaps the 2012 Ch...

Re: The difference between us and the Arkansas State fans

The thing that really distinguishes MW from our other previous HC is he understood the intense dislike Aggies have for BYU. His teams competed and won against them. GA 1.0 understood it too to a degree but Wells got it done. His press conference remarks prior to the now legendary 2014 game illustrat...

Re: Darwin Thompson waived

His downfall was the Ravens game early last year. He never quite got the coaches confidences back after that. He was a Covid lister at the start of training camp which put him behind. Had a bad penalty against SF in the preseason that did not help him. But he looked good against the Cardinals and Vi...

Patrick Mahomes started the last game of his rookie season against the Broncos. The regular starter, Alex Smith, sat out to prepare for the playoffs. So Patrick Mahomes was never officially the Chiefs starting QB but was officially the starter for that one game.

FYI, Darwin Thompson is inactive for the Super Bowl today. A bit of a surprise considering Le'Veon Bell fighting through a knee injury.

Disappointing.

Re: Darwin Thompson

One last thing to add here. Darwin has had good opportunities with the Chiefs. The coaches have been high on him and he was #2 on the depth chart going into the season. But he has had some bad plays that have stood out. One notable example was in last year's playoffs, Darwin failed to check down on ...

Saw the last part of the Iowa State game, where TT was shut down for three quarters. Columbi came in the 4th and moved the offense well. He looked really good and threw some impressive passes. I wish we had been able to keep him but I wish him well.

Re: Darwin Thompson

Darwin made some major mistakes in the Ravens game. Lost containment on a kickoff return and a disastrous fumble that nearly turned the game around for Baltimore. He hasn't had an offensive snap since. He has struggled in the passing game and in pass protection. I think he has lost the trust of the ...

Uh...you realize we won the game right? And it was against a solid opponent. It wasn't a lucky win either - and I happily and unabashedly accept lucky wins. Re: I'm not a football coach

Let's not get too carried away here on hypertheticals. The specific situation is nine seconds left, no timeouts and we are on approximately the 15 yard line. It is a close game, and we just made a heck of a FG. We do not have a Tarver like receiver. A sack or play in bounds ends the half. Keeping th...

A sack would have ended the half. So would a pass completed in bounds. Don't take points off the board.

Great game. One I had dreamed for 30 years to enjoy such domination. It was a beat down in every sense, on the road also. Some of the Darwin Thompson runs were unreal. Yes, we caused lots of mistakes but the Zoobs gave us a few gifts too. They were outplayed, out coached and under prepared. Awesome ...

In fact, they tried to move up in the sixth round, fearing another team was going to take him. https://www.arrowheadpride.com/2019/4/29/18522983/brett-veach-traded-up-once-on-day-two-and-attempted...

And the premise of this thread is that it is obvious that Coach Wells sucks in close games. Gee whiz. Are you saying that Wells should have predicted the muff, thus given instructions to let the punt fall?

Catching punts is what these guys are trained to do, even freshmen. You have to trust your player to do his job.

You field that punt and trust your guy to catch it. You have to catch it otherwise it rolls your offense into a field position hole.

CSU played well enough to win, but they didn't outplay us. There were enough reminders of why they only have three wins - the pick sixes and penalties in particular. We led most of the game, and when we went up 20-10, the feel of the game was if USU goes up by three scores, the game is over. CSU's b...
