Re: DC Hire

One of the other things that can easily be done with a 3 3 5 is essentially a 5 man front too that can on certain calls really limits the run/pass read responsibilities of everyone and thus eliminate some of the disadvantages of only six defenders via both pre-snap disguise and easy run/pass assign...

Re: What do we want from our offense?

Nick Saban (I think it was him) said something that was interesting to me after he the lost the playoff game to Michigan. In college football the hurry-up, no-huddle offense is the trend. Nick Saban commented how all year their defense has been able to see how the offense lines up (and then stares ...

Re: The Linebacker Position

This is now updated with Switzer planning to gain 20 lbs and play LB full time next year. (Players in blue are new). It honestly looks somewhat promising to me. I can't imagine we have another bottom 10 defense with this group :noidea: WILL (weakside outside linebacker): Max Alford (6-1, 235, R-So....

What do we want from our offense?

Only fair. We have the end of season stats and the games are still fresh. Hire an OC to call plays. Run a pro-style offense. No more up-tempo unless we're behind by 3 scores. Line our WR's up normally (away from the out of bounds line) so that DB's have to cover our WR's running pass routes both way...

Re: DC Hire

Nmsu ran a 3-3-5 last year. 👀 Meh maybe as a basic concept. If you watch their film it looks more like a 4-3, 4-2, or 3-4. I've brought this up on the board before, very few good coaches in today's game run a true base defense. I would say 80% of the time the weakside backer is lined up as a stand ...

You don't build a program firing coaches after 3 years. Especially a coach who won a league championship and took us to 3 bowl games.

Thanks for the info Roy! I never saw a 7-win season from USU until 2011. The time previous to that was 1979. I am very pleased that six wins is the floor for our program. We got 7 wins in 1993, the Las Vegas Bowl season and the 58-56 win over BYU. Not sure which was colder, a Niner v Raiders pre-season game at Candlestick ...

Re: The Linebacker Position

A glaring issue to me on the defense has been the linebacker position. It seems there's little depth and we have guys playing out position. Our end of season depth chart was: WILL (weakside outside linebacker): Anthony Switzer (6-0, 210, R-Jr., TR) Gavin Barthiel (6-0, 225, So., TR) Bronson Olevao ...

First off, Sammy, your bull skull is the wrong shade of blue. Needs more navy please. At least on my display. As far as LB'S we complimented a relatively immobile MLB with undersized OLB's. It works on paper, because maybe they could complement each other, but we saw how it worked on the field. Swit...

Re: Levi vs Hillstead

Hard to judge QB's who had to play behind our OL. Coop and Hillstead were both brutalized. Some of that was their own fault, and some of the blame goes to the guy calling the plays. But, when you have 3 different QB's, each one forced to run for their lives? It's mostly the OL.

Blake is a player's coach and there is good and bad in that. Good is that we turn over players quickly and when you have an unruly group they are gone before you know it. It's also good that if you stumble onto a true leader of men like Logan F-ing Bonner, you're not going to handcuff him with a bun...

Hillstead has "happy feet." He's dancing in the pocket, clean, then putting his head down and running into sacks. Very similar to what happened to Coop earlier in the year. (Coop added inaccurate passing to his bad pocket presence) Hillstead needs a reset to his mojo. In one game he was horrible at ...
