Re: Josh Quezada is leaving BYU....

I remember thinking, at the time the Cougars landed him, that he was a tremendous signing. He was +200 lbs in High school and still running a 4.4 40 I think. His highlight tape was quite impressive. Hope he lands on his feet somewhere that works for him.

Re: Can Oknokwo beat out Brady?

I dunno. Presumably he has adequate speed. He had an exceptional high school 400 time (mid 47s as I recall). Saw a track photo of him in high school and he was a really cut, muscular kid. Does not look like that so much now. Looks a little chunky. He's not real big---but there have been lots of grea...

Josh Quezada is leaving BYU....

Quezada was impressive coming out of high school. I thought he might be a great one at the Y. No idea what happened. Apparently he lost his brother in a traffic accident last year. He was not projected as the starter. Interesting.

Re: Turbin Could be starting...

An incredibly igorant article. Guy says Turbin lacks a high top end, can't turn the corner and can't out-run people. There are some fast DBs' from Hawaii, Idaho, Utah, BYU and A&M who would beg to differ. Guy says Turbin can't catch the ball. Actually, that is one of his strong suits. He was an exce...

Re: Kyle Whimpy Benches 500

Looks like there is a comment from a strength coach at another school that it is an "impressive raw bench press" (or words to that effect). I think even more so when you consider that Whimpey is what, 6'6"? That is alot of weight for a long armed guy. Looks like his brother is close to 5 bills too. ...

Re: Using Auburn as a measuring stick

The Auburn game last year is proof that USU's team is improving, but by no means does it prove they've reached greatness yet. I am observing from a distance. Watched most of the games on the 'puter last year. Saw the Tater Bowl live. But I agree: we are getting bigger, stronger and better in the tr...

If I may wax philosophic (and perhaps hyperbolic too!) When Keeton went down, it seemed the whole season---and perhaps Gary's job hung in the balance (not that it should have been that way). That comeback was the point at which the team learned what it took to win. So much of winning is psychologica...

Accoridng to Tony Jones Delroy had a pre-existing medical condition that prevents him from passing a physical exam. It appears the condition forecloses any further footbal for Delroy anywhere. Very unfortunate for the young man. Wish him the best.

Apparently the guy never even made it on campus. Maybe he just decided he did not want to play college ball. Who knows. Apparently he was not highly recruited (correct) but nevertheless showed ability and as we know, Gary has a knack for finding diamonds in the rough.

Our linebacking corps?

How solid will be at linebacker this year? I think Tavaris McMillian could have a break-out year. He was very impressive against Ohio and had a number of good plays throughout the year. What about Doughty? His strong suit seems to be speed and toughness. He's not huge, but I notice he has very good ...

Re: How will we stack up against Utah in the trenches??

Well, one of the Whimpeys is bench pressing 500 lbs. That's exceptional. Hopefully its indicative of his over-all capability as well. I recall GA saying a few years ago that we needed to get "longer" on the line of scrimmage and it looks like we're doing that, but there are a lot of new faces, so to...

Well, I guess you are right. But Phil Steele says the kid from SUU is the best QB in the state, but he is not FBS. I don't think saying that Keeton or Kennedy are the best in the state answers the question. The issue is how effective will they be? Honestly, Riley Nelson looked pretty good last year....

I saw them against BYU last year and Utah's defensive line was dominant. They were huge. How will we match up with them on both sides of the scrimmage line?

Re: Breakdown of quarterbacks we will face this year

I am sorry, but I must disagree. Chuckie has yet to demonstrate that he can be an effective passer. Kennedy is no runner and has a good arm, but we did not have a passing game last year. Was it quarterbacking, coaching or scheme? We need to be able to be a credible threat in the passing game this ye...

I say we dump a few women's sports and re-fund college wrestling. Remember the glory days of Russ Paulsen, Bob Erickson, Mark Harris and others?
