Re: Visitors in January
Just got two texts this morning from some recruitor friends from major programs who are working Florida this week. They jokingly said to tell MW to back off. Apparently he is recruiting hard in FLA and is being taken quite seriously. One said they are "surprised at how much USU is out there in FLA...trying to clean up." We evidently are competitive there and frustrating other programs. This is a great sign showing that MW with coaching changes and aggressive recruiting is really active in elevating our program. The kids they are recruiting were described as exceptional athletes...talented but struggling grade wise.

Re: Visitors in January
Nope. This has been the case for plenty of kids USU has recruited in the past (Gary as well.) A lot of kids just grow up by the time they get to college but there is also a process and plan in place for kids exactly like this and there's a lot of hand holding going on every step of the way (daily class checks, tutor sessions every evening, etc.). It's more work for the coaches and everyone involved and sure there may be a few casualties with this but the positives far outweigh the negatives.YoungBloodAggie wrote:Red flag for anyone else?Mediocre at Best wrote:Just got two texts this morning from some recruitor friends from major programs who are working Florida this week. I also look at the graduating percentage for the football team and see this as a non issue.

Re: Visitors in January
That's the case for nearly all of or most athletic players. I know of many players that are here because it's their only good choice due to grades or run ins with the law. For instance- Wes Bailey was recruited by programs a lot better than ours, but he couldn't go there because he was kicked out of three Jucos. I'm fine with that because he is a great player.YoungBloodAggie wrote:Red flag for anyone else?Mediocre at Best wrote:Just got two texts this morning from some recruitor friends from major programs who are working Florida this week. Really? Being kicked out of three jucos in three years assuming he red shirted one of those years is quite the feat and is very troubling. I'm all for second chances but hoping we are the first school he's been to that he doesn't get kicked out of has me worried. I'll cheer for him until he burns us so I hope he has grown up and is ready to become a man. Wes I'm cheering for ya

Added Kurtis Taufa, Eldridge Thompson and Tainoa Foster.
David Tate committed to UNLV. I'd assume he is not going to visit USU.

Re: Visitors in January
Not gonna lie--it's a bit concerning that we haven't been able to lock down many commits after OVs this recruiting season. How many more weeks for visits before signing day?
That's weird about Tate. My understanding was that he's been a soft Aggie commit for quite some time (I'd assume academic issues, but no idea honestly).
I'd be extremely surprised if Okwoli chooses us over BSU. He was poised to announce his commitment right after Heupel left (who I believe was the one who recruited him). I'm guessing he was going to pick BSU but then decided to give the Aggies one last shot without Heupel. Just guesses, but I'm expecting him to commit to BSU after his OV there this week.

Re: Visitors in January
While it's always nice to lock up a commitment right after a visit and while it is true that the chances of getting a commitment do go down if a commitment is not immediately made. The HUGE difference is the number of high quality players that we are after and actually in the conversation of them choosing to come to Utah State. Players that are in demand take a little more time to choose their school.

Re: Visitors in January
I am almost certain we don't have a chance at Tre Miller from Dixie High. Most high school kids down here in St. Greed are BYU oriented. There is still a stigma especially here in St. Greed that if you go to another school besides BYU, you must not be a very good Mormon. You know the Roger Reid thing with Burgess! Just the way it is down here. In Utah basically anything South of Provo, it is BYU. I hate it, but it is what it is!
The one good player that we had who was our long snapper was Nate Needham. We miss him, he was very good at long snapping! However, even he had USU roots, he is related to the Needhams from Logan. It just is almost a miracle when we get a local St. Greed High schooler to commit to USU. A lot has to do with Coaches and where they went to school. More coaches in the high school ranks down here went to BYU than those that went to USU

Re: Visitors in January
Even after BYU pulled his offer and then decided not to? To me, that's a huge slap in the face. Even with my love for the Aggies, if USU did that to my kid I'd tell him to go somewhere else.troutputz wrote:I am almost certain we don't have a chance at Tre Miller from Dixie High. Judging from his twitter Okwoli likes Boise more than USU. He is announcing his commitment on Tuesday.
Presumptuous and ill-informed.

Re: Visitors in January
Ray Lewis and son are in town. Hoping we can lock up a commitment this weekend--kid looks good in his tape!
Re: Visitors in January
Do we feel we can really land this kid. He would be big name for our program. I don't care about star rating or any of that. NFL all star dad with a huge following.ineptimusprime wrote:Ray Lewis and son are in town. Hoping we can lock up a commitment this weekend--kid looks good in his tape!

Re: Visitors in January
We're Lewis' best offer right now and he seems to like us on Twitter. Would be surprised if we didn't sign him.

Re: Visitors in January
Currently we Rayshads only visit. I think we are up there for him. He also has Fresno and Toledo recruiting him.

Re: Visitors in January
We should definitely have an advantage in the Rayshad Lewis race. UMass is terrible and we have produced some very solid DB talent in the past years. Shaver ought to have this one sealed up!

Re: Visitors in January
He stated he's a WR not a DB. Not sure if that is him or coaches on the change.

Re: Visitors in January
And....crickets. Coaches may be hustling, but not a lot of results the last two weeks of visits.
