SID: you always get this wrong
[pedantic rant]
From the game account:
Dogie and I have pointed this out several times. Our sports information makes this kind of mistake a lot: "x is the most since almost x". True but meaningless. The 73 points are also the most since USU scored 60 against NMSU last week. Also the most since every other game for the last 54 years.
Can someone do a minor intervention on Doug Hoffman or Wade Denniston and teach them how to get this right?
And shouldn't the fact that this was our highest scoring game since the Johnson administration be mentioned somewhere in the game summary?
[/pedantic rant]
From the game account:
No. 73 > 70. The correct way to say it is "The 73 points are the most since USU scored 76 against New Mexico State on September 26, 1964." That was the last time USU scored more points than we did last night. The 73 points are the most since USU scored 70 against Weber State on Sept. 14, 2013.

Re: SID: you always get this wrong
The image of you walking around your house upset at this is giving me an extra life a la Mario Bros right now.
Mrs. OKAggie: It’s just a press release dear.
OKAggie: This is the maddest I’ve been SINCE 918AGG moved my grandchild away! You’ll notice that event made me more upset AND THAT’S WHY I USED SINCE. Are these a bunch of Welshmen just using the King’s English for the first time and they decided to do it in a press release?!

This also drives me a little mad. I'd also like them to point out that this is the third most points scored by USU since the Aggies beat Granite High School 77-0 exactly 100 years ago.
Re: SID: you always get this wrong
Take a deep breath, relax. While you are correct, the sports information department pumps out a crazy amount of information in a very short time, and that is bound to happen.
USU’s SID is absolutely fantastic, and does great and accurate work 99% of the time. Let’s not pick nits.

It is bound to happen. Every time. It isn't one mistake, it's the same mistake over and over.bleu wrote: ↑September 14th, 2018, 9:38 amTake a deep breath, relax. Picking nits is what I do best. It's what helps me relax .

It may be a nit, but it is one that should be easily crushed or avoided entirely. Totally agree with OK: it's such an obvious grammatical/logic fallacy, it's not clear how it happens in the first place.

Re: SID: you always get this wrong
Ahem.
From the SID release on USU men's tennis:
(Oh, and props to Arevalo.)
From the SID release on USU men's tennis:
Not a mistake made in haste to beat a deadline. A departmental blind spot.Midland, Texas/Laguna Niguel, Calif. – Utah State freshman Isaac Arturo Arevalo defeated New Mexico's Dominic West 6-2, 6-3 in the singles final at the Midland Invitational in Midland, Texas, on Sunday, becoming the first Aggie since Tomas Cosmai in 2015 to capture a fall tournament title.
"Isaac showed terrific poise and determination all weekend," said third-year head coach James Wilson. "Today's match was probably his best of the tournament. He has a bright future and I look forward to seeing him develop. As a whole, we competed well and it was a productive weekend. We still have a long ways to go and many things to improve on."
In all, Arevalo went 5-0 in singles play this weekend to start his Aggie career. The start is the best for an Aggie freshman since Tanner Dance went 3-1 in 2009.
(Oh, and props to Arevalo.)

Re: SID: you always get this wrong
Mind blowing. May as well have been this:
"In all, Arevalo went 5-0 in singles play this weekend to start his Aggie career. The start is the best for an Aggie freshman since Joe Shmow went 0-5 last year."

Much like announcers and reporters non understanding the difference between straight and unanswered when it comes to points. It will never change until we’re all Ingsoc.

I'm failing to see the difference here. If I score 3 touchdowns, isn't that both 21 straight points and 21 unanswered points?TheAKAggie wrote: ↑September 18th, 2018, 12:29 pmMuch like announcers and reporters non understanding the difference between straight and unanswered when it comes to points. Re: SID: you always get this wrong
I agree with the original poster and disagree with SID apologists such as bleu. It strikes me as just plain lazy, as in “I got tired looking through past scores so I’ll just pick one that is close.” Incidentally, this is he most I’ve posted in one evening since this evening.

Re: SID: you always get this wrong
Depends, after you scored the 3 TDs did the other team score again? Then they were answered, right? At least the third TD was answered if the other team scores again.QuackAttackAggie wrote:I'm failing to see the difference here.
