Re: Darwin going pro
This has been alluded to for over a week on the forums by several posters, it was expected.
Doesn't make it suck any less to see it made official though.

Re: Thompson entering draft
I hope he succeeds and does well. I think another year would have helped him out, but I can't blame him for trying to get paid.

He will test well at the combine and will get drafted. Happy for him.
After losing Night Runner and now Thompson declaring, we are due for some good news now though, right?

Re: Thompson entering draft
1 year for a running back is a big deal. A guy can be an all pro at 28 and out of the league at 29. A 10 year career for a running back is considered a long career.
If someone can get drafted I’ll almost always root for them to take the money. Unless- they can legitimately be a 1st round pick in 1 yr, aren’t currently a 1st round pick and is confident they will not be injured.
Stinks for us, but I’m confident he will not only be drafted but will be drafted earlier than some think. I think he’ll make a name in the NFL- and it’ll benefit us in recruiting.

You can’t blame our kids for seeking the dream. As mentioned, he should do well which should help us in recruiting now and in the future. FWIW, I think it speaks highly of our program as well.

Re: Thompson entering draft
He has to be invited to the combine first. That's the trick. Remember Aggie stalwarts such as Zach Vigil didn't get invited to the combine.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑December 27th, 2018, 6:35 pmHe will test well at the combine and will get drafted. Happy for him.

Re: Thompson entering draft
As long as Dadrion Taylor is still coming, we don't have room to take another RB before February. The only way we take another RB is over the summer as a push forward.GeorgiaAggie wrote: ↑December 27th, 2018, 7:05 pmI guess we’ll be in the market for a JC running back in February.

Re: Thompson entering draft
So......Our offense is going to struggle next year.....like I said, 6 wins will be a huge accomplishment with the amount of firepower we have lost on the offensive side of the ball.

Actually it’s because of the time difference I can’t keep up with all the posts, so I tend to just read the titles when I get home from work.

Is it? He rushed over 1,000 yards while splitting carries and sitting out several 4th quarters. I say he’ll probably make it in the NFL.Sl7vk wrote:This is a huge mistake by Darwin.

It's the difference between 7th round and 3rd round IMHO. Lot's of money is that difference.

Either way it will be a lot more than the $0 he makes now.Sl7vk wrote:Oh, no question that he'll make it.sambonethegreat wrote: ↑December 27th, 2018, 10:04 pmIs it? Re: Thompson entering draft
He'll make at least $500,000 his first year. That is 10 years worth of degree salary. I'd say it's worth it, if he can get drafted.

We really ought to give Jaylen Warren from Snow a shot if we decide to take another back.

Re: Thompson entering draft
I don't blame him. What kind of stats would he put up next year that is better than this? Assuming he is splitting time with Bright, I can't see him doing much better. Hope he does great.sambonethegreat wrote: ↑December 27th, 2018, 10:04 pmIs it? He rushed over 1,000 yards while splitting carries and sitting out several 4th quarters. Re: Thompson entering draft
Even if he's drafted in a late round, it's probably a good move. He needs to earn a roster spot and a drafted player will be given more opportunities in training camp than a non-drafted player. Plus, with many NFL offenses eschewing the classic definition of a RB (Adrian Peterson, etc.) in favor of a back that runs well out of the spread and still catch passes, he will definitely get a shot.
He seemed injured the last few weeks of the season and I wonder if that made him think the clock is always ticking on a RB's career. The negative is if he goes undrafted when one more year in the spotlight could have guaranteed him a mid-round pick and money.
