McArthur Lane has passed...

Post by Smokin Joe » May 6th, 2019, 10:06 am

Sad news. I remember watching him with the Packers and Cards. Anyone with memories of his playing days here? Please share if you have any. Phenomenal athlete.

Breaks my heart. Every year, it seems, another of my childhood/tweener/teener heroes leaves us. 77 is too young.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Mac was great. He was at USU for my freshman year, and I watched him play two years and missed his senior year because of my mission. The closest comparison I can think of to Lane is Devonte Mays, only Lane was a bit quicker, and a little more explosive. He was also harder to bring down. He was a joy to watch. He and Altie Taylor played a few years together, and those two made up the best 1,2 punch backfield we ever had, IMO. Turbin/Smith were great, as were Thompson/Bright, but I would take Lane and Taylor in my backfield over the others. His brother Sid Lane also played for us. I think he was a linebacker, but I am not 100% sure. Someone will have to correct me on that.

Yes, Sid was an LB. So was Mac. One of the last two-way players we had at USU.
