Ags in the NFL 2019: A Contest
As NFL camps are now open and football season is only a month away, I'm creating the second annual Ags in the NFL contest.
As of today there are 16 former USU players under contract with an NFL team (list below). The contest is to predict which ones will be in the NFL when the season begins. Predict which players will be on the final 53-man roster on August 31, or on practice squads or injured/suspended/PUP lists as of the first game of the season. The OKAggie Foundation (me) will make a $50 donation to the winner to contribute to the Big Blue Scholarship Fund or the Merlin Olsen Fund (on your honor. I tried last year to make a donation in the winner's name, and they had trouble figuring out how to do it.)
Here's the hook: You rank the 16 players 16-1, most to least likely to stick in the NFL. For each player that is on the final 53-man roster, you get 2 points x the numeric ranking; for each player that is on the Week One practice squad, physically unable to perform, injured reserve or suspended list, you get 1 point times the numeric ranking. Players don't have to stick with the team they're currently under contract with -- if traded, or waived and picked up by Game 1, they count if they stick with someone. (If a player is on the announced 53-man roster on August 31 but is waived before Game 1, he still counts for 2 points.)
For example: if you think Bobby Wagner is the most likely to make the team (giving him a point value of 16) and he is on the final 53-man roster, you get 32 points. If you rank Jalen Greene least likely (giving him a point value of 1) and he makes the Week One practice squad, you get 1 point.
Mo Alexander/Bills
Jalen Davis/Dolphins
Marwin Evans/Seahawks
Kyler Fackrell/Packers
Jalen Greene/Rams
Tyler Larsen/Panthers
Nevin Lawson/Raiders
Dallin Leavitt /Raiders
Devante Mays/Jaguars
Donald Penn/Redskins
Dax Raymond/Bears
Patrick Scales/Bears
Hunter Sharp/Bengals
Darwin Thompson/Chiefs
Nick Vigil/Bengals
Bobby Wagner/Seahawks
Entries are due August 11 and can ONLY be made (or modified up to August 11) by entering your choices on this Google sheet. (If you just list them here, you're not entered in the contest.) After the entry deadline, all entries will be cell-protected.
OKAggie is the sole arbiter of any disputes. Good luck, have fun, and GO AGGIES!!

Nevin and Dallin got very little camera time in the first episode of Hard Knocks that aired tonight.

30 teams know they are available and neither is under contract. They've both had chances with several teams and done well, but probably nothing a younger player couldn't contribute for less money. NFL RBs have shorter careers than other positions.sammyhagar wrote: ↑August 7th, 2019, 8:44 amQuery :

I think they're both done. Would love to be wrong.

Reminder that entries are due by the end of the day today. If you've already entered, last chance to refine your picks. Now that all the teams have played one preseason game and all our Aggies has had a chance to show something, it's time to call upon your genius, expertise and predictive powers.

Re: Ags in the NFL 2019: A Contest
The picks are in.
No surprise that every contestant chose Wags as most likely to stick. Then:
Vigil
Fackrell
Penn
Thompson
Lawson
Larsen
Alexander
Scales
Raymond
Davis
Evans
Sharp
Greene
Leavitt
Mays
(Kerwynn signed with the Saints too late to get into the mix)
Every one was picked #6 or better (again, #16 was highest) by at least one picker
Five guys - Vigil, Fackrell, Penn, Thompson, Raymond - were picked #15 by at least one picker
The widest variations were on Lawson (14-2), Raymond (15-4), Evans (12-1) and Scales (13-3)
Good luck to all 16 (plus Kerwynn), and to all 21 who entered.

Re: Ags in the NFL 2019: A Contest
So i did a quick copy and paste to do some analysis. I considered the average as taking each players average points and sorting them from highest to lowest. Then I renumbered them 16,15,...,2,1. Then I considered the variation of each pick as the absolute value of the pick minus the average spot.
elcheque2 has the most variation from the average (3.75 spots on average.) His picks of Dax, Nevin, Jalen, Dallin and Devante were all 5 or more spots off the average.
Everyone else was within 2 spots of the average. Blue42 and AggieHokieDawg were the closest to the average at 0.63 spots off from the average.
The players that were the most disagreed on were Darwin (variation of 2.48 spots on average), Marwin Evens (2.52 spots), Maurice Alexander (2.19 spots) and Patrick Scales (2.14 spots).

Also, Raymond and Mays aren't yet on Injured Reserve for their teams. Both were announced as Waived/Injured, which means that they are eligible to be claimed by other teams and could be placed on the new team's 53-man roster or (more likely) IR. If not claimed, then they will be placed on their respective team's IR. We'll have to wait until Game 1 for their status to be finalized (for Contest purposes).

Congrats to Aggies22, the winner of the second annual Ags in the NFL contest. The late signing of Jalen Davis to the Cardinals practice squad, after he was waived by the Dolphins, broke a tie with OKAggie and gave Aggies22 the win by a single point. bigblue and OKAggie tied for runner-up.

Glad to see Mo made the Bills. Anyone know Turbin's status? Has he retired? I think if Devante Mays gets a chance, he could stick. His measurables are better than Jamal Williams.
