My grandfather played football in the late 1920's. His HS team pictures showed all of the players dressed like this without the leather helmets on. I liked seeing the footage of Curly Lambeau. Last year they had college football at 150 on ESPN. One episode talked about the relationship between the pros and college game. Before the late '30's very few college players went pro. The parallel they used was like pro wrestling, it was socially taboo, and not much money.

After Red Grange and Jim Thorpe played, more players looked into it. The League shed some of its negative reputation and became much more mainstream.
