2021 Fall Camp
Is closed. With the exception of two scrimmages. I'm kind of pissed off.

Re: 2021 Fall Camp
With the Teachers' Unions and most divisions of state and federal government looking for excuses to shut everything down (they do because they can), how could they possibly permit curious lookieloos or serious reporters like yourself in to watch? Don't you realize we've got cooties?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Re: 2021 Fall Camp
Is this for a perceived competitive advantage to keep things under lock and key? At the end of the day, I just want to win. So, if this helps, then I'm OK with it. Open to debate: is this realistically a competitive advantage for a small program like ours?

We can start a rumor that there is one game that a surprise onside kick is already planned for.

Re: 2021 Fall Camp
The best example of a reason to close camp was scouting done by the Utes for Matt Wells first game as a head coach. Wittingham plan for the onside kick was scouted and succeeded because of what they saw scouting practice and scrimmages. He admitted to it in the post game, but it was fixed before conference games were played.GameFAQSAggie wrote: ↑August 2nd, 2021, 5:10 pmWe can start a rumor that there is one game that a surprise onside kick is already planned for.

Re: 2021 Fall Camp
Another example would be, and I know this wasn't installed in fall camp, surprising BYU with Nick Vigil playing running back. There is a rumor though that we were planning on putting in the packages during fall camp to surprise Tennessee that year, but that had to be scrapped and BYU just happened to be the first game after we had the bye week and chance to do it.

Have the guys been vaxxed yet? It was disappointing to hear that everyone hadn’t been vaccinated. Right. If the goal post is zero cases this year could be very similar to last year. Just my opinion.

Re: 2021 Fall Camp
I don’t think the goal post is or has ever been zero. I don’t know how teams are treating contact tracing this season with vaccinated players, but hopefully with the vaccine there are only a few breakthrough cases. I think limiting exposure helps keeping everyone playing, which has got to be what everyone wants. I just don’t want to be sitting at home watching games on TV, while the game is being played in Logan in front of my empty seat again.

Re: 2021 Fall Camp
I'm sad the camp is closed. I was really looking forward to the anticipated updates and intel!
Whether it is strategic or COVID related I have no idea. But I'm guessing COVID is a slightly more likely explanation given what the coach said in the past.
According to the post about the MWC's COVID plans this year, the conference (and probably most schools) isn't (aren't) requiring vaccinations, *BUT* if a team has to cancel due to some players testing positive for COVID then that team gets a loss recorded on their record this year (unlike last year). Also any player who isn't vaccinated must be tested weekly, and the conference won't pay for the tests. I don't know how USU is treating the cost of testing.
Given that the vaccines reduce the likelihood of death from COVID by about 500x it is amazing to me that anyone over 11 years of age in the US isn't vaccinated by now. The "pandemic" is essentially just among the unvaccinated at this point. Yes there are break through infections, but deaths among the vaccinated are extremely rare. But at this point I've got to the point where I simply say that if a person wants to play Russian Roulette who am I to stop them?
163 million fully vaccinated - 1,263 deaths among that group.
About the same number who are not vaccinated - approximate deaths in that group 614,000
And one other point, if the closed status is due to COVID the Athletic Department could set up cams to show at least some of the action.

Re: 2021 Fall Camp
Interesting because I thought the big carrot being dangled in front of these players by the conference was to get vaccinated so they did not have to be subject to testing. Obviously the individual schools can run their testing how they see fit right now but will they continue to test players that are vaxxed once the season begins? Will they report positives among vaxxed if they do test everyone? Technically (according to the MWC) they should not be required to test them so why report the results among the vaxxed?
If getting vaxxed doesn't serve as a shield against being tested then I fear we may end up in a repeat of last year because there will be definitely be positives among both un-vaxxed and vaxxed as both sides continue to be carriers and spreaders.

If I remember right players that are vaccinated did not have to go through testing. I don't know what that would entail if someone who is not vaccinated comes down with covid and they do contract tracing and there is a player that is vaccinated that was with them,I don't know if that point they will have to be tested or not.Aglicious wrote: ↑August 4th, 2021, 12:54 pmInteresting because I thought the big carrot being dangled in front of these players by the conference was to get vaccinated so they did not have to be subject to testing. Players have the right to choose, but in my opinion it is pretty dumb for a player not to at this point. .l have no clue what the percentage of the team that is vaccinated but hopefully they can get it above 80% or as high as 90%.

I found the NCAA protocols. Interesting notes (if I am reading this right):
Close contact with someone COVID positive for someone unvaccinated is 10 days in quarantine; while someone vaccinated can wear a mask and discontinue if they test negative after 3-5 days.
Testing only when symptomatic for vaccinated individuals. Non-vaccinated will test twice before camp and weekly and within one day of each game.

Re: 2021 Fall Camp
Quick honest question. For those who had COVID before a vaccine was available what is are the percentages of them getting COVID a second time and what is the death rate for those who get it a second time.
I ask because I see similar numbers to those you posted all the time but I rarely if ever hear anything about those who have already had COVID. My suspicion is that it doesn't go with the popular narrative but I could be wrong. I think what we need to look at is the percentage of people vaccinated or who have previously had COVID. Those who have had neither and have any comorbidities are the ones that I question their sanity.

The rate of death is so stupid small, especially among this population. Higher chance of motor vehicle accident. Wish people would put it in the rear view mirror and move on. Delta is especially less lethal, more contagious, but nothing to worry about. Let's just play some ball and live.

Re: 2021 Fall Camp
The current 7-day average for deaths in Utah due to COVID-19 is 5. The total number of vehicle fatalities last year was 276, which translates to less than one a day. Also not sure where you're getting your claim that Delta is less lethal, although I suspect it will look that way because more people are vaccinated now and have a drastically lower chance of death.IdaAg93 wrote: ↑August 6th, 2021, 5:30 pmThe rate of death is so stupid small, especially among this population. One of the things a number of folks are worried about is the continued evolution of the virus, which happens more quickly the more prevalent it is. The more Delta spreads, the more chances for new variants to emerge. We could end up with one that is resistant to the vaccines we have now, which would be really, really bad news.
I'm as sick of restrictions, mask wearing, etc., as the next guy. I'll even go so far as to say that some policies and recommendations seem to be more knee-jerk reactions than actually based on what is or is not effective. But to say that Delta is no big deal is either wishful thinking or willful ignorance.
