Re: Csu and AFA not going anywhere
Everyone seems to think Thompson is the worst and that Aresco is some God of a Commissioner. Ares of looks like a dummy. Everything he does is so public and then blows up in his face.
Thompson spends 3 years negotiating an expanded playoff in airports and nobody has any idea. I would rather have Thompson.

Yeah, if Thompson has held things together than props to him. Aresco is a tool bag media guy.
There's blood in the water at the AAC, and now is the time to go on the offensive.

The thought of never playing Air Force again did make me happy. That was the only benefit I could think of.

Re: Csu and AFA not going anywhere
The one card the AAC had that the MWC can't play is the ability to pay exit fees.
That said, the MWC should be putting the full-court press on Memphis and SMU. If they won't come (most likely) we should stand pat for now...no use adding teams just for the sake of adding teams.

If we could get two out of SMU, Memphis, and Tulsa, that would be great.

Re: Csu and AFA not going anywhere
Memphis has already said no. IMO the G5 should settle down and let things settle for a bit..... and allow the MWC to be the best G5 conference

Re: Csu and AFA not going anywhere
True, but that was when the AAC was still making their play. The tides have turned. Most likely, nobody will leave the AAC, but it's definitely worth another call (assuming the money would be there).

Re: Csu and AFA not going anywhere
I know it doesn't mean anything but the AAC forum is saying the MW is in contact with Tulsa. If that is true I am sure they are with SMU and Mempbis too.
They also say that if we can get Gonzaga then Memphis would join.

Called it. (I wasn't the only one, but reports of the MW's demise have been greatly exaggerated.)

LMAO. This is just like how BYU alleges never offering players that commit to other teams.

I think the MWC is in the driver's seat now. It will be interesting to see what happens, but I would be surprised if Thompson wasn't doing some major work right now.

Re: Csu and AFA not going anywhere
I mean, it's certainly not likely, but the MWC is the clear-cut best G5 conference now and has some real stability regardless of what Boise does long term. If Gonzaga and Memphis were to join that would be a top basketball conference regardless of P5/G5 status. (Admittedly, Gonzaga couldn't care less about how strong their conference is, but Memphis might.)ineptimusprime wrote: ↑October 1st, 2021, 8:57 amGonzaga, SMU, and Memphis? Re: Csu and AFA not going anywhere
AAC fan board seems to think that CBS/Fox stepped up somehow and made assurances. Fans and rumors.... but if so, that looks good for our conference.

Re: Csu and AFA not going anywhere
You could go after SMU and pair them with somebody else out of Texas. But if you think Memphis, a relatively small university, is going to send all of their minor sports out west, then you would be as delusional as those folks who thought CSU would actually do the reverse. I think the CSU President had it explained to her that the money she would lose is as much or more as that which she MIGHT get.

Re: Csu and AFA not going anywhere
That rumor about Tulsa is coming from the AAC message board, so don’t put much stock onto it as their fans tend to be clueless most of the time, they were predicting that the AAC would raid the B12 after Texas and Oklahoma left.
On the other hand, don’t put it past Thompson to try and reach out to a Tulsa type AAC team to try and lure away SMU, Wichita Stat and Memphis, remember what he did to us with “the Project?” Never forget…

Re: Csu and AFA not going anywhere
CBS/Fox Sports had something to do with it? I still think the whole AFA/CSU stunt was an attempt to try and bring along SDSU and Boise, and when it became apparent that it wasn’t going to work, the whole thing fell apart quickly.

Re: Csu and AFA not going anywhere
Eventually BSU and SDSU will more than likely end up in the BIG 12. With CSU and AF staying that still situates the MWC as a solid regional conference with 10 teams. Now if THompson is able to add a team or 2 from the AAC or something with bringing GONZAGA in for basketball it would really solidify things. For now the MWC is the clear best G5 conference so we are in a pretty good spot.
