Does our team even want to be in this bowl game?

Post by ChicagoAggie » December 27th, 2022, 2:46 pm

It doesn't look like it. Yes, I am being one of those guys that blows his wad too quickly. In all seriousness, I've never seen more inept corners in my life. Our offense isn't much better

Ive seen rumors on Twitter that Coach Anderson is on his way out, maybe that has something to do with it. Whether that's true or not I have no idea

From anyone besides Tyler Riggs? He did post that, but has since deleted it.

No ... the team hasn't looked very enthusiastic all afternoon ... hopefully they can get something going after the score. Still plenty of time!

I don't believe these student athletes deserved their scholarship today. There was absolutely no effort. As a donor I'd love to give them a piece of my mind.

The coaches underperformed as well...outside of Banda in the first half.

I have a lot of pride, and I don't like be represented by people who have no pride.

He does have some inside sources and been accurate some time, but he has also has missed on a few things.

The first thing that got us all addicted to trusting him was that back in the day, he was accurate on our AD, Randy Spetman, leaving for Florida State before it was public. Then long before it was announced, he was accurate that the new football coach would be Gary Andersen, so that further built our trust in him. But since then, he has had a few misses. First, he missed on a highly touted linebacker VJ Fehoko choosing us. Then, when the WAC was starting to blow up in 2010 with the project bringing in BYU backfiring, and Fresno and Nevada leaving, he told us our conference situation would get better. He also missed that Scott Barnes would be leaving for Cal. And his most recent miss was that the new basketball coach would be the South Alabama guy Ritchie Riley.

Short answer? Yes, mostly.

Long answer? Yes, but has had moments of credibility in the past.

What is there to be excited about next year?

This team wasn’t very good and can’t plug all holes in one recruiting cycle.

Story I read today was that BA let the team go home for Christmas, not sure how that would have worked out with the bowl game being only 2 days after, usually the pre-game stuff starts like 2-3 days before? Did players show up yesterday for a bowl game today? If so, this has to be addressed in the future, no bueno! I've never and I mean NEVER once heard of a team not practicing two days before a game, even when it was on a Wednesday!! I get that Christmas is a Holiday, but if you want to play College FB or College any sport, you need to expect there is a good likelihood you'll be playing games on Holidays and will be gone on Sunday's and other religious Holidays, that's just the reality of the game!!

FWIW, Logan Bonner's dad Tweeted on Sunday that his son was spending Christmas at the team hotel so he drove over to celebrate with him. If Bonner as at the team hotel Sunday morning then I have to imagine the rest of the team was.

The team left for the bowl game on the 23rd. Blake did let the team go home after finals for a week or so but I believe they reported back by the 18ish. I don't have a problem with Blake allowing that. The coaching staff was going to be busy that week finalizing recruiting.

Signing day was on the 21st. Blake had a press conference talking about the signing day as well as the bowl game that day. The quote referenced in the SL Trib with Blake referencing the team being light on their feet was the practice they had on 12/19 or 12/20.

I think we will be good. We have a ton of experience coming back and some great new additions. We need a guy at RB and QB to step up obviously and will need at least one impact guy at WR. The rest of the team should be very very good

The best part about this game was when our power went out in the 3rd quarter so I didn’t have to watch anymore of it.

Reading BA's post-game comments dredges up memories of Alabama. He talked about how going into the game against Memphis they'd have to play perfect because they were outmatched all over the field and knew it could be a long day.

No wonder they didn't show up.

Maybe they should have just tried showing up and playing first. You never know what can happen when you try. I guess it didn't affect the Conference Championship so no problem. I didn't put one second into this game, but I had a nice ride up in the hills.
