Re: Aggie Transfers status on new teams
Anyone know the story of why Ajani isn't with Baylor anymore? Man, I really wish he would've stuck around now.

Didn't he he have some legal trouble here? (Maybe why he transfered in the first place?) I wonder if that caught up with him at Baylor.

Re: Aggie Transfers status on new teams
The fact that Bishop Davenport isn't in the top 3 quarterbacks at South Alabama is shocking. What is the story there? I though the guy had some serious talent.

Sounds like Bishop just got beat out for the 3rd string by a true freshman.

Re: Aggie Transfers status on new teams
I will never ever fault a kid who just does not feel like "schematically" he ended up being a good fit at Utah State for the things the coaching staff was trying to do. I get it.
Also, some kids just never feel like they are meshing with the coaching staff or team or community or whatever and they just want to go give it another shot at another school or with a different coaching staff or in a different community. Precisely why I think the one-time transfer rule has been a fine thing.
That said, of the 14 kids that transferred from Utah State FB last year, I don't really think I can count more than than about 6 who have dramatically improved their situation. Sometimes you don't know what you have until you don't have it any more.
The old saying, "The transfer portal giveth, and the transfer portal taketh away" seems to cut both ways.

How many of these guys were grad transfers? I don't fault a kid for transfering after he gets his degree.

Fair point. Any grad that wants to go anywhere for any reason and can get a coach to sign him is a win for everybody.
I don't really have that info.

My take on Davenport when I watched Davenport when he was here
Davenport has arm talent, but he struggled with reading the field.

Being a "schematic fit" wasn't the issue for Bishop. Impatience was.RogerAndersen wrote: ↑August 29th, 2023, 2:05 pmI will never ever fault a kid who just does not feel like "schematically" he ended up being a good fit at Utah State for the things the coaching staff was trying to do. I get it.

I just figured that the 4 you listed were ones I could give a pass to because they grad transfered. But there is no such pass for grad transfering to byu.aggies22 wrote: ↑August 29th, 2023, 7:50 pmThanks for figuring that out my Aggie brother.LarryTheAggie wrote: ↑August 29th, 2023, 7:35 pmLooks like AJ Vongphachanh graduated too, according to his byu profile.aggies22 wrote: ↑August 29th, 2023, 2:34 pmFour. Re: Aggie Transfers status on new teams
I can't really blame a guy for leaving for money, but in several cases, I hope the money was worth not getting to play much during your last year ever of organized football.
Unrelated to those that aren't getting time (since those that went to BYU will get plenty of time), it would be cool to have a Ryan Smith.

Bishop’s move has to be the dumbest. He’s stuck there too because he wasted his one transfer.

Maybe all that training at the Texas version of Vasa instead of going through Spring Ball wasn’t the best idea after all…. I also wonder who has a better chance at getting to the league, a Starter on a dominant Mountain West team or 3rd string at Baylor?AggieUprising50 wrote: ↑August 29th, 2023, 2:35 pmI am surprised, and yet not surprised, that Byron Vaughns didn't make the 2 deep at Baylor.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑August 29th, 2023, 1:20 pmOL Weylin Lapuaho - 1st string OL at BYU

This list is sort of depressing to me for a lot of these guys.
I highly doubt (outside of the yBu frauds) they’re getting big time NIL, and had they been patient, they’d probably be getting paid at least some here with our new NILs AND they’d be playing big time minutes on a team going for a MWC championship.
If they had been patient they would’ve seen the benefits of getting a new DLine coach, a guy who went from a mid major to the League.
A lot of these guys had attitude issues anyway, so maybe it was a good thing they’re gone, but most of them sure are talented, and if we didn’t lose our entire D Line we’d probably have the best Defense in the conference this year, and one with a much better chance of winning the league.

Re: Aggie Transfers status on new teams
It's Blake's own fault he waited for the guys to leave before firing the D Line coach, assuming that was the reason the guys left. And assuming Blake told the kids that the DLine coach was returning, as opposed to telling them that he would be reassigned and he would look for a replacement.Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑August 29th, 2023, 10:15 pmIf they had been patient they would’ve seen the benefits of getting a new DLine coach, a guy who went from a mid major to the League.

And while it's speculation and rumors if the guys did have attitude issues, it is fact that one player posted something stupid attacking fans on social media, although that is something that can maybe be blamed on Blake for setting the bad example giving the players that it was right.

Re: Aggie Transfers status on new teams
If anything, you can maybe say it was a good thing he left when he did so we would at least spend the summer and fall camp preparing to not have him as opposed to the shell shock of him not qualifying. You do have to wonder if we still would have offered and landed all the guys we did if we were planning on having Ajani. Maybe having Ajani to compete with would have been a dealbreaker for one or more of the guys we did land. But then again, maybe if he stayed, maybe we would have at least spent the summer thinking his eligibility status is in jeopardy and been just as aggressive recruiting as we were.
Another counterpoint is that maybe USU courses are easier to pass than Baylor courses, and he would have been able to qualify if he had stayed.
