LOGAN SPORTS BAR?

Post by tinplater » September 1st, 2023, 10:36 am

Any place in Logan where I can enjoy some bar food, a glass of wine, and the Aggie broadcast?

Ruby's, on 1400 North and 800 East.

The Beehive, on Main Street, west side of the street, maybe Third south?

Both have great pub food, decent selection of beer and wine, and lots of TV screens.

Thanks! Nothing opens in Logan to see 10 am kickoff? And I assume that alcohol isn't served until ? AM?

That early may be difficult. I believe Prodigy Brewing on Center Street opens at 11 and they usually have games on there.

No booze in Utah until 11:00 AM? No champaign brunch/no bloody Mary's or mimosas for breakfast in Utah? Wait, LOL of course not.

Hard to understand these quirky Utah laws....I guess they don't want you to arrive in church intoxicated? I'll try Prodigy first and then Beehive if necessary. Both open at 11 so we will be one hour into the game. GO AGGIES!

Any experience with Cache Bar?

Golden opportunity for Logan to finally get an Aggie Bar (not the candy version)

You could call ahead and ask if any of those places will be opening early. I know several years ago B-Dubs would open early to show the USU games, I want to say that the Factory has done that as well. They may not do that anymore with other options in town and lack of interest. In the past the factory usually has a good aggie crowd. The only issue is you have to get there first to request they put the game on.

With the way Logan loves their chain restaurants, they probably have a Buffalo Wild Wings now.

What time does the liquor store open? Just bring in your own holy water to mix in your dirty soda.

I'm sorry. I know I'm posting a lot tonight, but I'm alone in Logan. The very fetching Mrs. LKGates was supposed to be with me, but her sister in Portland died, and she is attending to the details. In the immortal words of Zach Mayo in An Officer and a Gentleman, "I got no place else to go!"
Anyway, this discussion reminds me of my one active foray into Cowboy Poetry. Every January for the last 20+ years, I've gone to the National Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, Nevada. I'm usually just a connoisseur, not a performer. Every year, the Gathering has guest cowboys from a different country. Many cultures have a tradition of horse mounted cattle herders. So, one year they announced that the following year, the guest cowboys would be from France.

I was seized by the muse. I set pen to paper, and produced "Ode to a French Cowboy".
I'll just give the opening stanza:

He steeled himself for a long hard ride, his saddlebags filled with brie.
He loaded his six-gun up with blanks, and his canteen with a nice Chablis.

If you want the rest, I'll see if I can dig it up...

If you're not being sarcastic (it is SO hard to tell on this site, sometimes...), yes, there is one on 14th north. I'm old enough to remember when they were BW3, "Buffalo Wild Wings and Weck". Weck, of course, being short for "kummelweck", a kaiser-like roll with pretzel salt and a smattering of caraway seeds on the top.

There has been a BWWs in Logan since like 2012, or longer. I think they opened my first year at USU.

Took me a while to dig it up. It's not PC. To keep it in context, this was written shortly after 9/11, when the "Coalition of the Willing" was being assembled, and the French prominently bowed out. So, here goes:

He steeled himself for a long hard ride, his saddlebags filled with brie.
He loaded his six-gun up with blanks, and his canteen with a nice Chablis.

He heard there were Muslims to the East, his horse he headed West.
He tightened his horse's cinch up tight, and pinned a white flag to his vest.

He pulled on his designer boots, and straightened his black beret.
Though danger loomed behind him, his Frenchman's heart was gay!

He buckled on his wooly chaps, thought of his girlfriend's charms.
He straightened his broad shoulders, and practiced holding up both arms.

He hoped that there would be no fight, that no blood would be shed.
He thought back to the last big war, that he watched from 'neath his bed.

So here's to the Gaelic Cowboy, the John Wayne of the Seine.
We've bailed him out many times before, and we'll bail him out again.

Thank you. I'm available for weddings and Bar Mitzvahs.

If you want the rest, I'll see if I can dig it up...
Want the rest? We need the rest.

All in all, well done! Going to share it with my neighbor who shares cowboy poems in church.

But the Gaels are from Ireland. The Gauls are from France. He's a Gallic cowboy.

You're quite right. I'll edit the poem. Of course, they're all celts. Generally, place names that start with "gal" indicate celtic origin, including Galicia in Spain, and Galatia (as in the epistle to the Galatians) in Anatolia. Those celts really got around.

Edit: I actually got it right in the original poem. I made the error when I was transcribing it after midnight last night, as I was waiting to change the irrigation water in the orchard. "I thought I made a mistake once, but I was wrong".
