Weird timing after they did what they were supposed to against New Mexico.

Or just bring him in as an advisor for the game this week?

I just don't see how dismissing a coach before season ends solves anything. Their record has not been great this year but their team is fighting hard for him. This is as good a time as ever to beat Boise this week. If we can't beat them this year not sure we ever will.

Their players may find some extra motivation, who knows how they will react?

I do like the idea of hiring Avalos immediately, now that is thinking outside the box!

Wouldn’t it be funny if our first win over boyze in a decade comes because their players refuse to play in protest of a questionable comment Boise’s president makes about the interim head coach and we win by forfeit? As a random, non-specific example.

Why would a team ever do that?

I think it would be funnier if we had their coach on our sidelines with their playbook in hand. I’m sure they wouldn’t be able to change all of their signaling before next week too, so he could tell us exactly what they are about to do. I don’t think it would ever happen, but it would certainly be pretty funny.

Not surprising that he was fired, but the timing is odd. My guess is that someone is on their radar that they are trying to get before anyone else.

I agree with this. Avalos is a DC not a head coach, and BA getting Avalos would really help the team in so many ways. I wonder if the AD would push for that.

The real question with Jimbo Fisher: Did he have a clause with Texas A&m that he needs to look for work and and that A&m is off the hook for whatever he is able to make at that job. It seems like some schools are able to get that negotiated in, you have to wonder why not everyone does it. I think I heard once that regardless of in the contract, that is usually what happens.

This is a real thing. Teams that lose their head coach are very dangerous the next game

I suspect the reasoning behind the timing was the players going to the transfer portal.

Agreed, Boise is talented. Sure hope the Aggies can get the victory but Boise will be super motivated and we just flat out struggle against them even when we have had great teams which this USU team is only average.

No excuses now, this should be a Win.

Except for that we never beat them ever and they probably have better talent across the board than we do? Other than those excuses?

Even when we have a good team I have zero confidence against Boise. I know this may come as a shock to some of you, but we don’t have a good team this year. We have a mediocre team. Boise is going to win by double digits like they always do.

Just need to eek one out against UNM and we will have exceeded my pre-season expectations!

He's been in the Mountain West a long time. Why not? Frank Maile ended up in boise for a time.

As far as how the players react, I think it simply depends on how they felt about the coach. Was he liked? Great motivation. Was he disliked, not so much motivation.

I would absolutely love this.

I think Andy is an awesome defensive mind, he’s a young guy that is a good recruiter. And now has a bone to pick with Boise State. He would be a huge improvement to what we have now

Positive thoughts. Players are probably thinking about the portal, and may want to avoid injury.

Where we rank
25th worst in the nation in giving up points
Every game has been us giving up 24 or more points
37th worst in the nation in yards given up
32nd worst in the nation in rushing yards given up
We got blown out where the other team slowed their offense down in games like Air Force, James Madison, and San Jose State.
Then look at Avalos
Avalos in his last season at Oregon as DC had the #9 defense in the nation.
