I hated the stupid penalties, but I have been a fan long enough to remember when it was a dream to have a season like this year.

Seriously. When I read this forum, sometimes I wonder if anyone on this board has been a fan for more than 10 years. I grew up cheering for USU in the 90's and 2000's. If someone would have told me that we would be bowl eligible 10 out of 12 years (and that our fans would be complaining when that happened), I would have laughed in their face.

Don't get me wrong. I have also found this team to be frustrating to watch, and I hope that we make some significant changes before next season. But the doom and gloom on this board all season long has been incredible. Can I just be happy that we're going to a bowl game again for one night before we have to create 10 threads about how bad the team sucks?

I’m happy for the team, but I am not content. We should expect more.

This team met my minimum requirements: making a bowl game.

As fans we need to expect more, but not to the point that we should overlook that making a bowl is a sign of success (even, or perhaps especially after a season as ugly as this one has been).

We won with our 3rd string Qb and going bowling. Enjoy it for one night.

Interesting you hate a team that exceeded your expectations. This year definitely had some frustrating games and Blake has to improve the defense for next year, but happy the team won and Levi got his moment in an Aggie jersey. Excited for the bowl and the chance to finish with a winning season.

So a fan that vocally said no way we win 6 games, now but says the team and coaching staff sucks? Seems quite a complainer.

Blake should be given a bonus !!!
37 players gone, defensive and offensive coaches gone
Heck we should have lost them all BUT no we get bowl eligible!!
Pretty darn good coach if you ask me
If my facts are wrong please don’t tell me I just like to believe that Blake performed a miracle this year
For so many years we were dead to neck up now we are very respectable
Go Aggies and congratulations on a hard fought season. You made me proud again to be an Aggie

Both things can be true. You can definitely dislike a team that exceeds your expectations for a variety of reasons. I hate the lack of discipline and boneheaded nature of this team. It drives me insane and makes watching games unenjoyable. I am happy we won, and I am on record as being fine with 6-6 seasons, this team is just aggravating in how they got to 6-6.

My issue with this team is that there were some games where we won, but didn’t feel good about it, and some where we lost, but felt like they gave a good effort, and could have won against a good team.

Win the ones we are supposed to, without the drama, and give a good game when we aren’t.

This squeaking out a win over a team we should dominate while playing well against good teams is what makes me crazy.

Isn’t it odd that we’d have the exact same team but if we’d beaten Fresno and JMU we’d all feel leagues better?

I truly believe this tan should have beaten Iowa, JMU, and Fresno. I felt we would go 5-7 so 6-6 is better than I thought. If this team played any D, or had any discipline it could have been one of the funnest teams we’ve had.

As frustrating as this team is to watch at time this team does show fight. They could have easily given up as it was going into overtime or even on that last drive when all of the pass interferences were being called. They could have given up and given a touchdown. In the overtime when it was 2nd and goal from the half yard line Hale and the team could have imploded. But what happened Hale got inside and got a two yard loss which forced the field goal. Proud of the way that the team was able to rally at the end and close it out.

So, is our program at a place where even on our rougher years we make a bowl?

If so, that's cause for celebration and the opposite of grounds for changing head coaches. (That said, Cauthen needs to be replaced post haste.)

With how things have gone over the last 10+ years, 6 wins is now the minimum expectation every year. The other thing I would add to this is a winning conference record should also be expected.

With all of the off-season turnover, even with the .500 conference record, I think this team met expectations. But with a merely competent defense, which I think we have the talent for, and a little bit of discipline to avoid the boneheaded penalties, this could have been a great season.

Everyone brings up some good points about this year’s team. There is a lot to be happy about. Even in the game yesterday, there were many individual efforts that brought home the win.

Going six and six should be our absolute lowest expectation with where the football program is at. Frustrating because with the offense we had this year even a mid-level defense and we could have had 2-3 more wins.

Levi cemented himself In Aggie lore with one historic effort. His back push into the end zone will go down with Legas TD pass as great Aggie individual plays.

So we overperformed slightly on expectations that we'd be terrible.

We were favored against U Conn, Idaho St., Nevada, New Mexico and SDS. Our only win while being the underdog was CSU. We were also 6-6 ATS.

My numbers were based on where we were projected in the preseason. That's my fault for not being more specific. Obviously, things change in season which can lead to odds being changed. I see your point my Aggie brother.

Sure but did we under achieve or over achieve?

I think we under achieved due to those reasons.
