i would prefer we hire a person who has had previous experience as a DC. I don't want someone who is getting their first shot at being a DC.AggieUprising50 wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2024, 9:58 amAny chance we could get a d-line or linebacker coach from Iowa?

Let’s get a guy who’s been DC at two or three G5’s and maybe a high end FCS recently.Aggie84025 wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2024, 12:31 pmi would prefer we hire a person who has had previous experience as a DC. Re: So, who do you want at DC?
He only needs one more year in the NFL to break the all-time combined tackles record, he is 114 behind London Fletcher and he already has 168 this year with one game to play. For solo tackles he could break the record early in his 3rd season at the pace he is on or might be able to get it week 16/17 in 2 years. I'm not sure how long he wants to play but right now he is second in the league in tackles for the season so it seems like he could have a few more years in him. He should go for the NFL record while he can.
After that we should Chico as the head coach with Anthony Calvillo as OC, Bobby Wagner as DC. Emmitt White RB coach, Kevin Curtis WR coach, Whimpey Bros co-OL coaches, Chris Cooley as TE coach. Zach Vigil as LB coach, Nick Heninger DE coach, Nevin Lawson CB coach, MIchael Coe safeties coach, and the ghost of Merlin Olsen at DT coach.

Nowinsky would be great. Gasparato from Troy would also be good though he may not leave the south. I think Tyler Stockton from Ball State is a real up and comer and great defensive coach.Sl7vk wrote:That would be a great hire.
Someone else mentioned it earlier but I’d take Derrick Odum if we could somehow pry him away from SJSU.

I think Bobby is still 360+ tackles short of overtaking Ray Lewis for most combined tackles all-time.Coloraggie wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2024, 5:28 pmHe only needs one more year in the NFL to break the all-time combined tackles record, he is 114 behind London Fletcher and he already has 168 this year with one game to play. Re: So, who do you want at DC?
I see Boise is making him a co-defensive coordinator and he’ll be working under DC Erik Chinander. I wonder if he would have taken the sole DC job at USU over the lesser role at Boise that he settled for.aggies22 wrote:Tyler Stockton was hired by boise state.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2024, 8:25 pmNowinsky would be great. Re: So, who do you want at DC?
It's all about $$$. Someone would be the DC here(or Boise or anywhere) over being the HC at a smaller school if we pay more. Likewise, someone would choose to be a position coach at a bigger school over DC here if they pay more.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2024, 7:48 amI see Boise is making him a co-defensive coordinator and he’ll be working under DC Erik Chinander. Does the school still have a good relationship with the Ah You's? Matty spent time here coaching and "played" here (albeit he didn't actually play due to injury). I have heard praise as of late of CJ Ah You. I've generally heard good things about those guys.

Re: So, who do you want at DC?
You may be right, I was looking at a site that as I go back didn't give him credit for any tackles his first five years in the league. Still, in his 3rd year from now Bobby could have the record. He said he is coming back 100% next year. It will be interesting to see if he plays beyond that and when and how fast his production will drop. So far there is no sign of his production dropping.Naked Bull Rider wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2024, 8:44 pmI think Bobby is still 360+ tackles short of overtaking Ray Lewis for most combined tackles all-time.Coloraggie wrote: ↑January 2nd, 2024, 5:28 pmHe only needs one more year in the NFL to break the all-time combined tackles record, he is 114 behind London Fletcher and he already has 168 this year with one game to play. Gene Chizik is available. i know his UNC defenses weren't much, but that's a tough gig. Maybe a G5 DC reboot would be perfect for him...

No thanks on Gene. Got to watch him while he was HC at Iowa State. The guy is pretty crusty. He also very much likes the South.

from his resume, it does look like he likes the south. but the guy knows (knew?) how to coach.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑January 4th, 2024, 7:27 pmNo thanks on Gene. Got to watch him while he was HC at Iowa State. The guy is pretty crusty. He also very much likes the South.
not sure what you mean by crusty. mean? not personable? hard-nosed? crass/vulgar? depending on the intended meaning, I might suggest that our defense could use someone to inject some discipline and intensity. might be a good yin to BA's yang...good cop/bad cop? And even so a crusty DC is a very different animal than a crusty HC.
Very likely a moot point because he's probably not even on the radar, but...IMHO USU doesn't turn down a national championship winning coach and national coach of the year if he somehow wanted to come to USU. We could learn from someone with those credentials...
