Re: Article on Shaun Dolac
When we've been effective defensively the last 5 years, we've had an anchor linebacker that racks up 10 tackles a game.
This is very encouraging.

So glad we got him!
It's so nice to finally see the staff bolster up the LB position.
This is the 3rd transfer LB being brought in. Combine with that getting Max Alford & Bronson Olevao back from injury (fingers crossed they can actually get healthy) and all of a sudden the position looks it has some potential for next year.

Awesome pickup by Blake and staff. Love that he has 2 years of eligibility left. In terms of his injury is he expected to be a participant in spring camp or have to wait until fall?

Are we thinking this guy is good based off of the stats he had over four season, or has everybody watched him play? I’m not trying to say he’s not good, but I want to hear why everybody else likes this guy.

Well for one, he led the nation in solo tackles in 2022.EngineeringAggie wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2024, 12:06 pmAre we thinking this guy is good based off of the stats he had over four season, or has everybody watched him play? Article on Shaun Dolac
Dolac was injured in game 4 this year and took a redshirt. He was a freshman that played all 7 games for Buffalo in 2020. He should have a COVID year available too, so up to 2 years of eligibility left.
So Cauthen would have coached Dolac for 2 years at Buffalo. I assume that’s where we had a pre-existing relationship with him. Does Dolac committing indicate that Cauthen is returning? Or, did he commit regardless of Joe possibly leaving?

Joe Cauthen has been let go. Shaun committed less than 48 hours following that news.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑January 3rd, 2024, 1:21 pmDolac was injured in game 4 this year and took a redshirt. Ok good to know. Guess Joe wasn’t the primary reason he was interested in USU after all.aggies22 wrote:Joe Cauthen has been let go. Re: Article on Shaun Dolac
Well, he did have a nice pick six in 2022. Nice indicator.

4.64 40 time per Hudl. That's plenty quick for a weak side LB.

Sounds like a great pick-up. I'm curious why he was in the portal at all? Anyone know?

My guess: after 4 years with a MaC program and earning all-MAC honors, and still having 2 years left, he decided to try the portal. Utah State ended up being the best option.

Article on Shaun Dolac
He played middle linebacker at Buffalo. Why wouldn’t he play that spot at USU? Will he not replace Tafisi? I see everyone saying he’ll play weak side LB. Perhaps he does if Alford shifts to middle but Alford wasn’t middle to start last season and Dolac has a lot more experience and production in that spot. Alford is a bit heavier I suppose but Dolac seems to have the mentality for middle.

He's quite small for a MLB

He's nearly as big as Tafisi and as long as he moves more fluidly laterally, he'll be fine.

Article on Shaun Dolac
He does play violently and decisively like Tafisi, but seems better laterally. You don’t lead the nation in solo tackles without having great instincts as well. I’d hate to move him somewhere that he’s not as instinctive. If he can add 5-10 lbs this off season he’ll be just fine.

Re: Article on Shaun Dolac
Not a fan of Tafisi. He's not remotely adequate for the role. As a #2? Mebbe. He was too slow. Bad instincts. Bad technique. Short arms. Bad hands. Took forever to accelerate to top speed (which was unremarkable).
At this level, Dolac is no Vigil.

Re: Article on Shaun Dolac
He was listed at 6'1" 225 last year for Buffalo. Pretty close to what Bobby was in 2011 at 6'1" 232. His success or lack thereof won't be about being too small.

Bobby's got very long arms and is freakishly athletic.
