Re: Bryson Barnes
I don't understand anything or anyone.
Like I'm not upset about it, just don't understand our QB room. Are we running some 2 QB sets next year?

Really, really stupid if true.
Dude better lead us to a 12-0 regular season or it's not worth it.

Maybe he has a girlfriend up here. Maybe USU has a degree that he wants to pursue. Maybe he likes cows. The more competition, the deeper the bench, the better. AS LONG AS WE DON'T RUN OFF COOPER LEGAS.

Re: Bryson Barnes
He had some fun moments last year, and had some great tape.
Beat USC.
He’s probably just as good as Legas
And by my count, he has two years of eligibility left.

Re: Bryson Barnes
That’s the idiotic part. Usu isn’t the place to come for him to get to play.
He’s the 4th best qb on the roster right now. He thinks he’s good because he started for the high and mighty best team ever Pac-12 superstar Utah Utes.
The kid is transferring from Utah because he wants to go start somewhere. It’s insane he thinks usu is the place for him to be the starter. He isn’t good.

He beat Florida and USC last year, so there’s that.

Re: Bryson Barnes
I do share opinions of other people expressed in other threads hoping we wouldn't offer him cause of the parallels to Jason Shelley.
But some other thoughts.
1. While it's one thing for Blake to offer him, I sure hope that Blake didn't PROMISE him the starting job and is going to have to make him earn it, and that the job is still Legas's to lose. And heck, make him fight with Hillstead and Petras for the #2 job.
2. I sure hope that EVERY last offensive skill player is OK with it and isn't going to fight less hard for him than for Legas.
3. Maybe Blake has FINALLY realized that Bonner was never the same after his injury and knows that there is a possibility that Legas is similarly never the same after his injury. And maybe Blake has heard more than us about the possibility of Legas's injury lingering than we originally thought.
4. Wishful thinking, maybe since we're talking about a kid that was once a walk-on, that would point towards him not being Jason Shelley and not thinking he is great just cause he played for a PAC 12 school. And maybe he will be different than Shelley cause of how long he spent in the portal being told no, or at least only offered a spot with a chance to compete for the starting job and not a promise of it like Shelley was given cause of his friendship with Gary.
5. Another wishful thought, maybe one carrot in Blake offering him is his inside knowledge of Utah's playbook which would point towards him bending over backwards to TRY to beat Utah like we chastise him for not doing against Alabama.

With Utah's line, Legas or Hillstead could have beat Florida and USC also.

Re: Bryson Barnes
He beat USC and Florida. Is he a great QB? Maybe not. Acting like he’s not as good as anyone we currently have is just disingenuous. I don’t really need to hear about stats because our offensive system is a gimick that allows QBs to have over inflated stats.Roy McAvoy wrote: ↑January 8th, 2024, 9:37 pmThat’s the idiotic part. The kid is a gamer, and a competitor. The QB room
Needs all the competition we can get. No one should feel comfortable.

Utah should play Rollie against us if we play Barnes.

Re: Bryson Barnes
In their bowl game against Northwestern ha played the whole game and went 8-13 passing with 55 yards and threw 2 INT's with 0 TDs.
He also ran the ball 16 times for -2 yards.
All this while being surrounded by 4 star recruits.

Maybe you weren't around the last time a USU coach tried something similar.
I'm going to be so annoyed if we lose Legas over this.

If Barnes wants to come here and compete for the starting job, then let him. Legas, Hillstead, and Petras have had injuries in the past.

I've watched Blake mismanage the QB position 2 years in a row. I have zero confidence in him to handle it correctly next year.

I’d like to thank Blake for this signing. I was almost starting to get excited for next season. Now my expectations are back to where they should realistically be.
Can’t wait to watch Blake absolutely screw up the QB situation for the third year in a row!

Re: Bryson Barnes
All the commentary out of Utah's side when he transferred was that he wanted to go somewhere he could start.
It's absurd he thinks USU is that place. I watched nearly every Utah game last year. He is not a good QB. He either thinks USU really sucks and we're lucky he's coming from the high and mighty Utah Utes to come help us lowly Aggies, OR the coaching staff has given him a belief there's a good chance he'll start next year.

Have you heard STRAIGHT FROM A SOURCE that he will have to earn the starting spot and was NOT promised it? Or are you just HOPING that's the case like the rest of us?

Re: Bryson Barnes
None of the quarterbacks are that impressive. I started the fire BA threads, and the same people who said that BA is not bad are proving that they have lost complete confidence in BA. Legas and Petras are in their final year while Barnes and Hillstead have years left.

Re: Bryson Barnes
NO QB last year played well enough for the Staff to be a “slap in the face” if we bring another guy in.
We were 6-6. If Legas gets beat out by Barnes that’s his fault.

Honestly the best 2023 game by a quarterback was Levi Williams against New Mexico.Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑January 8th, 2024, 9:56 pmNO QB last year played well enough for the Staff to be a “slap in the face” if we bring another guy in.

We were 5-4 in games Legas played in. With the 5 wins being Idaho state, UConn, CSU, Nevada, SDSU. Not good enough. We would’ve won those games with me playing QB for hellHoot wrote: ↑January 8th, 2024, 9:57 pmWhat’s our record in games started by Legas vs all other QB’s since last season?Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑January 8th, 2024, 9:56 pmNO QB last year played well enough for the Staff to be a “slap in the face” if you bring another guy in.

Sake.
Our QB room was awful. Don’t let Jalen Royals taking an a 8 yard stop route 90 yards mistake you into thinking Anyone from The QB room Was great last year.

So then let’s bring in a real qb. Not bring in a poor one that might run our best qb we have, that also has the love & support of the locker room, out of town.Bullnamed_gus wrote: ↑January 8th, 2024, 10:01 pmWe were 5-4 in games Legas played in. Eerily similar to the Jason Shelley/Henry colombi situation.
