Brent Brennan to Tucson

Post by Bullnamed_gus » January 15th, 2024, 10:03 pm

Hopefully USU still has some spots open, because we will be able to poach some of those Players. And SJsU can’t poach back.

Currently we do not.

Is there anything preventing us from over-recruiting now, anticipating some attrition after spring camp? I could see losing some from the 5 deep on D-line, for example, if they see how little playing time is left over

The portal is closed so we can’t encourage anyone to enter. I know SJSU has some serious talent in their front seven.

My scholarship count includes the true freshman but I believe you can carry 85 schollie dudes during spring as well and as long as you are at 85 once fall camp begins that should fly. I'll see where we are at minus the high school kids.

Don’t you think the best players will follow Brennon to Arizona?

Especially when you consider the necessity he will have to cherry pick the best SJSU players cause of Arizona having their best players cherry picked by Fisch out of necessity cause of Deboer cherry picking the best Washington players out of necessity cause of kids that left Alabama.

I also love how EVERY time another school loses a coach, our first thought is to poach that school's best players, yet WHEN our coach leaves(rather it's cause of Blake doing good enough to get a bigger offer or him being let go cause things spiral downward here) we will be mad at the other schools that want to do it to us. And mad at Blake WHEN he does it us like some people got mad at Wells to an extent for doing it to us(with Ingram for example). But Blake doing to us when he leaves either way will not be any different than what he did to Arkansas State when he left or what any coach does when they leave in the current era. Or what the coach who replaces him does to the school he leaves for us, or what the coach Blake replaces does to the school he leaves for someone else.

Spring Portal window is reportedly 15-20 April of this year. Suspect there will be quite a few CASUAL phone calls before the Spring Portal opens.

According to my count, we have three schollies to give before we reach 85 prior to spring ball.

Apparently, if the head coach leaves a team for any reason, there is a 30-day window opened for players to enter the portal.

Now that classes have started for most schools, it will be interesting to see how many SJSU players enter the portal. My guess is most will wait until the 15-day April window to enter.

I hope he had a fat buyout, for SJSU's sake.

most athletics money in the P5 comes from donors, not the university. UA Athletics is fine.

Does the owner of CEFCU want Mike Macintyre back?

While I get what you’re saying… this is different. They had improperly budgeted this past year causing an unprecedented $240 MILLION shortfall. They are not ok financially in any department of the university and have had to cut jobs including in the athletic department.

This.

Also, there are a couple of Pac12 schools that are bleeding cash because of the athletics department. You know where the school prioritized sports over education and have had to shut down academic programs to pay for the athletic debt.

Turns out that trying to win an arms race against Oregon and USC is really hard when you are Arizona, WAZZU and OSU.

Athletics is causing more financial issues than it is solving for a lot of schools.
