State of the Program
I think it says a lot about where we’re at as a program, that it’s the NFL draft weekend and I haven’t heard any mention of any players potentially getting drafted. I could be wrong, but I don’t think I saw any threads about the pro day either? Seems like we’re not putting out as many players as we used to in the 2010s

At one point in the 2010s, Utah State was the #1 G5 school in having NFL players.CacheCow wrote: ↑April 25th, 2024, 9:33 pmI think it says a lot about where we’re at as a program, that it’s the NFL draft weekend and I haven’t heard any mention of any players potentially getting drafted. It ended after Wells left.

Re: State of the Program
Shocking how Wells leaving also coincides with changes in the transfer portal and NIL money. If Wells or and version of GA are here, they are having the same issues that BA is. This isn’t just an us problem it is an issue everywhere. Aggies22 said in another thread earlier that we would be shocked at the offers our players are receiving. Which proves how sh&tty of a job was done with our defense last year. Say what you want but BA was quick to cut a good friend as his defensive coordinator when it was apparent he wasn’t cutting it. Not many coaches would cut bait that quickly with any coach let alone a friend.SLB wrote: ↑April 25th, 2024, 9:58 pmAt one point in the 2010s, Utah State was the #1 G5 school in having NFL players.CacheCow wrote: ↑April 25th, 2024, 9:33 pmI think it says a lot about where we’re at as a program, that it’s the NFL draft weekend and I haven’t heard any mention of any players potentially getting drafted. Vaughn has the talent, but not the size. Next year we’ll have draft picks with Royals and Ike. Potentially others too. We’ve been developing NFL guys. It’s just that they leave us for more money.

Has anyone that has left us made the NFL? I can only think of Jaylen Warren off the top of my head.EngineeringAggie wrote: ↑April 25th, 2024, 10:38 pmVaughn has the talent, but not the size. Re: State of the Program
I just looked through the NFL draft picks for this year and the number of G5 players being picked seems way low compared to previous years. I don’t have actual numbers to prove that, just my observation so far. With NFL caliber players seeking more NIL in college this trend would make sense to me.CacheCow wrote: ↑April 26th, 2024, 5:04 pmHas anyone that has left us made the NFL? Re: State of the Program
Its' midway through the 5th round and I don't think anyone from the MW has been picked yet, so it's not just a USU issue. I think there are two CSU players in the next 100 best available. The MW could very well get shut out or get just a couple drafted this year. Down year for sure for the conference.

Re: State of the Program
Nick Saban admitted to tampering with the guy from Toledo that got selected in the first round.
Reminds me of how it's easy for people to admit to doing stuff they shouldn't have been doing AFTER they are gone from a job, that they are going to deny doing while in the position.

Re: State of the Program
And that's after only getting 5 drafted last year, none of which went in early rounds. I think P4s are getting better at identifying best talent, and the guys they whiff on they can just poach after a year or two at a lower level school.AGGIEinIOWA wrote: ↑April 27th, 2024, 12:30 pmIts' midway through the 5th round and I don't think anyone from the MW has been picked yet, so it's not just a USU issue. Re: State of the Program
By contrast, the year JL was drafted (2020) there were 14 through the first 3 rounds
25 through 4 rounds
36 through 5 rounds
ish

Re: State of the Program
Granted there are more "power" conference teams, but I don't think it would have made much of a difference in the numbers.

Re: State of the Program
How many of these guys started at the G5 level and transferred to a P5 prior to being drafted?

Re: State of the Program
There were quite a few FCS, CFL, and international guys drafted. How many players from the Dakota FCS schools were drafted? Seemed like several.

In the "players that left us" group, Byron Vaughns has signed with the Cowboys. And Daniel Grzesiak has signed with the Buccaneers.
