LOGAN, Utah - Utah State men's basketball head coach Stew Morrill announced Monday an update on a pair of players who suffered injuries in the Aggies' game at New Mexico State on Thursday, Jan. 17.
Junior guard Preston Medlin (Carrollton, Texas) will be out 6-8 weeks with a fractured wrist, while senior forward Kyisean Reed (Palmdale, Calif.) is out with a season-ending torn ACL in his knee. Both injuries occurred in the second half against NMSU.
"First and foremost is our concern for Kyisean and Preston. This is as tough as it gets and we hurt for them first and our team second," Morrill said. "We expect our players to step up and compete, as we have a lot of season left."

Re: Any news on Reed or Medlin?
SAD for Mr. Reed. That is a tough way to end one's career.
As for Mr. Medlin, the season may be over before he gets back. Hope he can make it back quickly.
It will be interesting to see how the current players respond the rest of the year with these injuries to their teammates. There are some opportunities to make a splash.

Yes we are screwed in the short term, but this will allow some guys (Lopez, Jean) to play significant minutes, which will really improve our bench for next year. Like most years, this year we just don't have any real depth on our roster. I really hope that stew can improve this going forward.

Couldn't agree more. It's Jean, Shaw, and Doc time!"We expect our players to step up and compete, as we have a lot of season left."
Bair and Bradshaw screwed up big time.

Agreed, this just turned into a "building experience/confidence season" for the younger guys. Feel terrible for Reed.Agzrule wrote:Yes we are screwed in the short term, but this will allow some guys (Lopez, Jean) to play significant minutes, which will really improve our bench for next year. Re: Any news on Reed or Medlin?
Two years in a row we'll have to see a great kid and team player exit senior night without playing. This sucks. Stone, Lopez, Jean, Butterfield, and Roland have a 6-8 week tryout to see if there's a spot for them on the team next year. Time to make the most of it.
And is it any wonder these injuries happened during another jungle ball session in Las Crotches?

Wade Denniston with an appropriate quote for today .. and for our young team:

Not at all hipster. If you remember Tai broke his nose down there. It has been nmsu's strategy to out physical USU the last three or four years. Glad we don't have to go down there any more.

Re: Any news on Reed or Medlin?
Wow, this is some kind of cruel joke. Unbelievable! Very sad for Reed to end his career like this, and very frustrating for Medlin to have to miss the rest of the year (likely) and be on the shelf for so long. What bad luck.
It seems like whatever troutputz did to exorcise the unsettled spirits from Romney....it may have caused them to migrate south to the Spectrum. We are suddenly incredibly snake bitten suddenly, and it seems to coincide with the football programs turn around. We may need to make some kind of secondary offering - Trout, you out there?
P.S. Can we cancel that makeup game with BYU?

I'm a reasonable man, get off my case.

Re: Any news on Reed or Medlin?
6 weeks brings Medlin back for the last two regular season games. 8 weeks he is available for any post season play we may or may not get invited to.
It will be interesting to see if the coaches bring him back to play this year or not. May not be worth risking a re-injury?

Yes, good riddance to playing prison ball.GUS wrote:Not at all hipster. If you remember Tai broke his nose down there. It has been nmsu's strategy to out physical USU the last three or four years. Glad we don't have to go down there any more.
Re: Any news on Reed or Medlin?
yES, YOU SAY GOOD RIDANCE TO PLAYING PRISON BALL OF nEW mEXICO STATE, remember it continues only in worse form when we start playing UNLV next year!!!!!! And New Mexico at the Pit.......Next few years will really show how good of a coach STEW still is, or if he's lost his touch? Right now I feel he and he alone needs to step in and do the recruiting, because what we have gotten the last 2 years, just plain sucks!!!!! Too many rejects from Okie State and Lasalle, there was a reason why they left folks!

Re: Any news on Reed or Medlin?
That is terrible news for you guys. Two years ago we lost Wendell McKines for the entire season due to an injury and this year we lost our starting center because of a torn thumb ligament.sven wrote:yES, YOU SAY GOOD RIDANCE TO PLAYING PRISON BALL OF nEW mEXICO STATE, remember it continues only in worse form when we start playing UNLV next year!!!!!! I've always thought highly of Utah State fans because most of your digs were not malicious. I do take issue however with comments/allegations/insinuations that NMSU plays dirty. Our current roster of players---like yours---are fine student-athletes. A majority of our players are from outside the U.S. and they do not bring a thug mentality to the game.
By the way, if you haven't seen this, here's video from KSL that shows when your players got injured. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=294&sid=23811418 .

Re: Any news on Reed or Medlin?
Most of us know the injuries weren't caused by NMSU. Anyone who thinks they were has to question their own intelligence.
I'm actually really smart, probably smarter than you are so if you disagree with what I have stated in this post, you are likely wrong (and dumb).

If that is when Medlin broke his wrist he played the entire second half with it.

Was that when he was doing a crappy job on defense? (according to certain posters).dyedblue wrote:If that is when Medlin broke his wrist he played the entire second half with it.
