What is the story on Crew Ainge?
Starts but only plays 4 minutes for the whole game? I wonder what is the story on that.

It’s simple really. The coach is starting the returning veteran in the program who is a hard worker and has a great attitude. Uvu really turned up the defensive pressure on him though and he didn’t have his best game so he didn’t get a lot of minutes beyond that.

Cool. Looks like it’s going to be another good year of piling on our own players. Makes reading this board so much more enjoyable.

You know - this board is about exchanging ideas and discussing USU sports, its players, coaches, wins and losses. It's not about only butterflies and rainbows.bluegrouse wrote: ↑November 17th, 2018, 8:19 amCool. Looks like it’s going to be another good year of piling on our own players. So as to Ainge, the truth is he is limited in his abilities. To say otherwise would be dishonest. But, I'm glad he's on the team. I understand he's a glue type of guy -- energy, a love of basketball and works his butt off. I hope he continues to get his 10 or so minutes a game; and hope they become more productive.

I’m fine with criticism (like your second paragraph) but find it extremely boorish to hurl insults at our own players.

There is no need to pile on the kid for the twentieth time. It is obvious to coaches as well...

Re: What is the story on Crew Ainge?
I'm sure it is -- we have started very slowly all 4 games this year that he's started. I think most of us expect Ainge to become an energy guy about mid-way through both halves for about 4 minutes a half. Not piling on the guy at all, just talking USU basketball like always.

Hopefully we won’t have cheerleaders in the aisle for 3+ minutes like we did several games the last fee years.USUBlue wrote:I'm sure it is -- we have started very slowly all 4 games this year that he's started. I wonder if Taylor Quinn’s lay up against MVSU was the quickest first basket we’ve ever scored?

Re: What is the story on Crew Ainge?
Is it an insult when someone asks why Ainge isn't getting more playing time and someone responds that he isn't a D1 player and someone else responds that his talent level would fit better at Westminster if both responses are true? I'm not sure the second observation is true, but at this stage of his career based on watching him play in 20 games and seeing the results, I am sure the first observation is true. Not an insult. Just a fact.bluegrouse wrote: ↑November 17th, 2018, 8:42 amI’m fine with criticism (like your second paragraph) but find it extremely boorish to hurl insults at our own players.
We have played the weakest competition of the season over the first four games of the season where our other players from top to bottom have thrived (with the possible exception of Tauriawn), and Ainge has struggled mightily. He has more turnovers than assists (4-3), nearly as many personal fouls as points (7-8), and has an eFG% of .375. In nearly every traditional and advanced statistical category, he is putting up the worst numbers on the entire team. He has the fewest points per 40 (7.4 -- all others are 11.4 and up), lowest ORtg (74.6), the only negative NetRtg (-14.2 -- everyone else is positive), lowest plus/minus (-3.2), lowest PER (2.1 -- second lowest is 12.3), lowest TS% (.424), and lowest eFG% (.375). Unfortunately, giving him any court time at all is hurting the team. I don't mean any of this by way of boorish insult. Simply observing and reporting facts.

Pretty sure it’s meant to be an insult to say he should be playing at Albertsons, Northwest Nazarene...

Re: What is the story on Crew Ainge?
If the kid is in over his head at our level of play, I don't think it's insulting to suggest what level of play the kid might be able to compete at. Not every kid that plays high school ball gets the opportunity to move up and play college ball. There is no shame in that regardless of the level of play that is achieved. You aren't a failure if you aren't able to play at a D-1 program.

It's a reference I don't get, so I'm not sure if it's an insult or not. Westminster I know. That's where David Stockton played, right? Or at least one of the Stockton boys.bluegrouse wrote: ↑November 17th, 2018, 11:03 amPretty sure it’s meant to be an insult to say he should be playing at Albertsons, Northwest Nazarene...
