Ready for some better competition

Post by OKAggie » November 14th, 2018, 6:51 am

Impressive, encouraging start to the season, but against teams that finished ranked 270, 215 and 348 by Ken Pomeroy last year.

Nice to get 12 players a chance to play, but ready to see how that rotation shakes out in the next month against UVU (KP 172 so far this season), St. Mary's (60), ASU (46) or Mississippi St. (20), Northern Iowa (138), UCI (89), BYU (57), Weber (140) and Houston (39), with only two of them in the Spectrum.

Nobody here knows anything.

The next nine games will be interesting. I'm excited to see how our team competes against better teams. Winning 6 of 9 would be great.

I'm guessing we'd only be favored in 3 or 4 of those games (UVU, Northern Iowa, Weber, UCI - maybe - already has a win over Texas A&M). If we were to win 5 of those games I'd be happy. Any more than 5 would be really impressive given that they're mostly road/neutral games.

Time to get real.
We’re not that good and we’re not that bad! Time to improve the level of competition. We fell in love with Duryea after his first 4 games too.
A split these next 4 games will be a great start!

I don't ever remember falling in love with Duryea.

Is UVU any good? Weren't they some sort of rising power in the last year or two?

I don't think they're as good as they have been the past couple of years but they only lost by 10 in the Marriott Center.

Early on it's looking like our schedule will be pretty difficult.

St. Mary's has been blowing everyone out and looking good, including a NMSU team that was supposed to be good. After that game we'll play the winner/loser out ASU & Miss st (both highly ranked teams).

UC Irvine won @ Texas A&M, which will be in a huge win come March. Northern Iowa & Weber are always pretty decent. Then Houston & BYU are currently #40 and #59, respectively on Kenpom.com

That means 4 games against top 60 teams right now and 5 games against top 100 teams per Kenpom.com. Good thing for that schedule because the MWC is looking pretty weak outside of Nevada.

Isn't that a home game for them? How many guys on that team used to play there?

Rebuilding year at UVU for sure. Lost 8 guys from last years team and right now they have little identify. One current player at UVU used to play at BYU. Last year they had a solid team but I doubt this years team gives the Ags much of a game. So still looking for better competition.

Don't worry. We'll be blown out on Monday.

I'm definitely ready for some better competition. I can hardly wait for the Beehive Classic as I'm looking forward to watching us play Weber State on a neutral court in Salt Lake City. I'm sure it will draw a number of spectators.

Yep. Gonna find out pretty quick how we stack up. Personally I don’t really care about the record coming out of those games as long as we continue to improve as a team, play hard and get good experience. For me this year is for getting Smith and his system in place and for player improvement. It will be interesting to see how it goes. Off to a great start.....

Would settle for 5-4, but I'd like to see 6-3 against that slate of teams.

So you'll give me USU +10?
