Can the MWC become a 3 bid league next yr?

Post by JFW_AGGIES » March 17th, 2019, 8:58 am

We all know what we have coming back next yr. It looks like the MWC will be very good next yr. CSU,BSU,and SDSU all look to be good next yr. If UNLV can hire a good coach they could be improved as well. UNR looks to come down a little and if FSU can replace their seniors they could be good as well. NM looks to be trending up too. Should be a really tough league next yr thoughts....

Without offending our favorite poster, the teams you mentioned can't drop home games to Brown by 20 points in OOC. Really the MWC with few exceptions crapped their bed in November and December.

On paper I think you are right, but it all comes back to results.

USU should have most of the roster back and hopefully add some depth.
Nevada will take a step back with all the seniors graduating but still has lots of talent.
Fresno loses two good players..
SDSU should be about the same. If they do add the other McDaniels brother then they will be really good.
UNLV is a toss up with a new coach but hopefully they are good.
Air Force is playing better and they will have everyone back.
New Mexico should be better.
Boise has a couple of good transfers coming in. Should be better.
CSU doesn't lose much. Carvacho will be a senior.
Wyoming won't be good, they lose James who was their best player by far.
San Jose State I think will improve some. They won't be any good though but hopefully they can get a few more OOC wins.

Steadman the big for SJSU that averaged double digits announced he is transferring. SJSU also had Brandon Clarke a star at Gonzaga. They are a train wreck and will continue to be

“Wyoming won't be good, they lose James who was their best player by far.”

Isn’t this what everyone said about us last year?

Next year I can see MWC sending three teams (USU, UNM, and SDSU). I think Nevada takes a large step back, and UNLV won't be ready (assuming they hire a competent coach).

CSU returning Carvacho helps, but I don't know if they have shown to have enough beyond him. Paige is leaving.
AFA might be good enough to give some folks a scare, but I think they top out as a NIT team.
Wyoming probably doesn't have the horses to make any noise.
Boise State may be good enough to make a run and get themselves in through the tournament bid.

UNM is returning a lot. I also think Paul Weir is a very good coach.
SDSU will always be at least good. Mitchell, Mensah, and maybe McDaniels is a good core, with some good role players around them.

Utah State will be repeating as both regular season and tournament champions. Please don't dare to disagree.

The MWC will be strong next year. I’ll have a post later this spring when we figure out who is coming and who is going. The coaching changes will be significant throughout the country, I’m sure that will impact the MW. Thad Matta is a done deal to unlv.

Yes if they stop crapping the OOC bed.
