8 Seed History
Since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 1985, there have been 136 total #8 seeds. Here is how they have performed.
Exactly half (68) won their first round game.
13 teams advanced to the sweet 16.
8 teams have advanced to the elite 8.
5 have advanced to the final 4.
3 have advanced to the championship game.
1 has won the championship (Villanova 1985).
8 Seeds to Advance to Final 4:
2014 Kentucky
2011 Butler
2000 Wisconsin
2000 North Carolina
1985 Villanova
It is highly unlikely, but it can (and has been) done. Can we match the 2011 Butler team and become the second mid-major 8 seed to make the final four? Probably not, but how awesome would that be?
So that begs the question: what would you do if we made it to Minneapolis? What would you give up to guarantee a spot?

Re: 8 Seed History
Great analysis. Thanks for sharing.
Pretty good validation for the selection committees to have what is essentially supposed to be a pick-em game won 50% of the time by the 8 seed and 50 % of the time by the 9 seed!
Not so surprised at that, but I AM surprised that roughly 20% of those 8-seeds that won their first game also went on to knock off the 1 seed in the next round. That's not a small number! Of course we have to take it a game at a time and focus on the task currently at hand (Washington). But I also hope that out guys believe that they can do more than win *just* a first round game. There's NO reason why we can't be part of that 20% that moves on to next week!!
I believe!! Go Aggies...

I would give up sex. It's pretty much a double rainbow event for me at this age anyways.
