It sucks to lose Worster, but maybe he will change his mind and come back. If he improves his shooting he is an all around great player. The silver lining is we there 1000 players in the portal and we can offer some great playing time. I have confidence that Odom will keep us in the right direction.

Man, not good. Marco is going to follow him to the U
Well coach must have really made a good first impression yesterday.
Here’s my best attempt at a silver lining. When you are playing Bean at the 4, and a non-shooter at the 5 spot, you really need the guys playing Rollie’s and Marco’s positions to be consistent shooters. Rollie and Marco are great players, but shooters they are not. That’s my best attempt at a silver lining.

How I really feel—Smith left and took two of the best players with him and left the remaining fruits of his bad recruiting on the roster for the new coach to deal with. The two guys I am excited about coming back are a former walkon turned Aggie god and a Duryea recruit.
I have to disagree a bit. Marco is as you say not the most consistent shooter. But, I thought Rollie by the end of the season was much better. When you consider that Rollie was running the point, I thought his shooting was fairly decent for a true freshman. I would guess that by his junior year, his offense will be very good. HIs shooting mechanics looked good. I have to believe that his missed shots were primarily due to inexperience and pressure to run the point.

I hope Ashworth is ready to take over. It's his team to run, now.

OK...help me out here, so I don't have to sort through all the different threads. Where does the assumption that Marco (not in portal) and Rollie are going to Utah come from? I don't want them to leave, but I don't see major minutes for either one at a mid to upper level Pac team. Do you really see big opportunities at UCLA, USC, Oregon St, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona? Is Smith really after guys that could just get him to middle of the pack, at best?

So are we trading Rollie and Marco for Rylan Jones and Ian Martinez... and their dads? Lol

People on this board that tend to know things are heavily implying Rollie and Marco are going to Utah. Nothing is official, but where there is smoke there is usually fire as they say.

Rollies game will only get better. I mean he averaged almost double digits and was a true freshman! He could probably get significant playing time at a lot of P5 schools, especially by the time he is a junior or senior. Marco is an amazing defender so he could probably play at a lot of P5 schools with his defensive ability alone. But he would have to improve his offense.

Results from this year's Mickey Mouse NCAA tournament aside, the PAC-12 is not that good. Certainly a step up from the MWC, but both Marco and Rollie can absolutely play big minutes on an above average team in that league. Maybe not a conference title contender, but Utah doesn't really have a chance at doing that anyway unless they start paying players again like during the Kuzma era.

My guess is that it is Utah or Oregon State because there is some serious connections there. Wayne Tinkle was the Montana coach (Tres Tinkle was the Hellgate superstar before Rollie), and he has a bunch of seniors and 2 in the transfer portal..

And this is why it sucks to be getting a new coach every few years. Risk of complete roster turnover.
BUT with literally two thousand players in the transfer portal there are more opportunities than ever to retool your roster quickly.

Wasn't Worster one of our highest rated recruits in basketball, ever? It seems like we have bad luck with our highly recruited guys (James Walker, Koby McEwen, and now Rollie). We should aim low so as not to be disappointed.

It seems like our luck with Montana Player of the Years left with Wayne Estes. This is two in a row now.

So I was looking at the San Jose board and a couple of things that Miles mentioned was GATA, love the rim, etc. Sound familiar. But another thing that pertains to Marco especially was that "about how much more important the 3 point shot is than when he was in the league previously. He said that it's hard for a defensive specialist to make the team any longer unless he can shoot." So maybe Marco is going to Utah, but he ain't going to San Jose State.

Makes sense. He's obviously getting good minutes here but have you seen Utah's roster lately, especially factoring in transfers out? Rollie can play 43 minutes a game and take 36 shots every night if he wants to down there.
He can only play 43 minutes a game if they go to overtime.

I sense that people are upset about this. I'm upset with Rollie because he gave up on Utah State before he could see the Spectrum magic and the new coach's style. We don't need guys like this. We need guys that want us.

It's like feeling sorry for yourself when your girlfriend leaves you. No. You kneel down and thank God that she left so that you can find someone more interesting and someone that REALLY wants you. FU Rollie. A little joking when I say FU but not really.

I don't think I would normally be worried about a few leaving, but I do find it concerning because Odom said at the press conference he wants them all to stay.
What do you expect Odom to say in the press conference? Name a few players he REALLY wants to stay, a few others he would be kind of wants to have stay, and a few others that he would be kind of OK with having leave?
What he said was just fine, it’s just concerning that he appears to want them and they aren’t staying.

Hate to say it, but the only player on this team that is truly irreplaceable is Queta, and we've known he was gone before the season even ended. This year was always going to be a rebuilding year. Time to turn a new page in Aggie hoops!

I could see the argument for Bean but what makes Worster irreplaceable?

By no means is this a slander towards Worster. Obviously I'm bummed and would rather him stay. But there are plenty of other impact-ready guards in the portal that could replicate his production if not exceed it.

I think that is just the issue. All we have seen is his production as a true freshman. We don't really know how much better he can be. He was a rebound shy of a triple-double in a game this year. That is a pretty rare feat that is not easily replaced.

Worster had potential but he was a primary reason we lost our tourney game and the mwc final (far from the only reason). In his defense he was a great talent for a freshman, and he was carrying a lot.

But he played hero ball and like plenty of other guards couldn’t hit wide open threes. A lot of that falls on Craig. Without Queta we would have been very mediocre in the mwc and it would have been CSU playing in the tourney.

It’s a shame he left he had a lot of room to grow. So long as he doesn’t transfer within the mwc or to a Utah school I wish him the best.

Pretty hard to recruit to a team without many returning players and a coach who hasn't coached yet. It is a chicken and egg scenario.
