On paper we ended the season with all of our starters capable of returning next year together with our coach who led us to the NCAAs three years in a row. With one now starter lost to the NBA, two starters lost to the portal, our sixth man lost to being a grad transfer and another starter lost to injury (conjecture) we are are down to Bean being the only returnee out of the top six. I couldn’t have imagined things being this bad.
Maybe it’s “I couldn’t have imagined things being this good.” Meaning we pick up even better players than we lost in the portal. That would be sweet. Imagine getting players that can actually hit a few three pointers in a tournament game.
If we can’t land impact transfers with 3 of the starting 5 spots (4 of 5 if Miller can’t go) completely up for grabs, we have a problem.
Or we recruit impact freshman to fill (some) of those spots.
I like to call them future sophomore portal enlistees.
Are we expecting another coaching change next season?
We’ll see an annual revolving door just like this year going forward.

Did we get a definitive answer on Miller's health (back problems)? Is he planning on returning for sure? I hope he gets back to fighting form.

I was told he’s medically retiring; someone else was told the opposite. Maybe 22 knows?

I think we'll be fine for that reason.

USU has a recent history of success.
We just hired a head coach with a proven track record.
There will be plenty of playing time available.

We'll be fine. I'd like to hear some names ASAP as well, but they'll come.
Well, we’ve certainly had success the last couple of years restocking through the portal. :sarcasm:

At this point I wouldn’t blame Bean if he entered the portal. He has worked too hard to spend his remaining eligibility in a rebuild.

I think seeing 2 starters leave and knowing one of the two holdover starters is so bad off health wise that retirement was considered, having little confidence in 3 of our returning 6 bench players, and realizing we hired a coach that’s shown even less fire than Duryea in his first week has me squarely on the doubters side of the fence.

Totally understand. Let’s see what Odom and his still unnamed assistant coaches have up their sleeves before pressing the panic button. As long as Bean remains in the fold, I have hope!

I think after Smith most coaches would seem short on energy. That doesn't mean he lacks passion or doesn't know how to win. He says "alright" a lot...but its too early to compare him to Timmy.

Do we have to attempt some kind of “shoot the moon” style announcement of coaches and recruits all at once or could we create some positive vibes for the fanbase by announcing even the slightest evidence that we’re not just warming ourselves on a dumpster fire?

I agree the lack of news gets our minds racing and not in a good way. Odom is different than Smith but can be just as successful. Odom will be solid.

Probably. But if we had landed Riley, we'd probably had our whole roster filled out by now.

While I may not be pushing the panic button yet, I definitely am lifting off the protective cover. We have yet to hear anything about a coaching staff. Also, right now is the time to reload your team that has been purging starters for the last few days. We are now hearing that our two biggest targets are off the table. I guess we will see what happens by the end of the week, but next season is looking to be a rough start the the Odom Era.
