6'6 and athletic. Needs to put on some weight, but could be a good one. Looks like they call him Zee.

Re: New guy (Muzamil Ameer Hamoda)
It’s growing on me. I hope he’s a “hit” and I hope he stays all 4 years or leaves early for the NBA.
I hope this signing means someone else that isn’t likely to contribute next year is moving on (so that we still have two scholarships left), or I hope we use our last scholarship very wisely. I’m not going to single anyone out on the board, but there’s some guys at the end of the roster right now that I hope move on.
Right now, I don’t think we’ll be a very good team next year. Just gotta be honest.

Agreed, Miller should hit the trail, especially with a bum back.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 11:46 pmIt’s growing on me. I hope he’s a “hit” and I hope he stays all 4 years or leaves early for the NBA.

Wow, talk about looking under every rock! Excited to learn his story and how he ended up at USU. Looks like he possesses the athleticism we desperately need on the wing.

Re: New guy
We have that in Eytle-Rock. Could use a serious rim-protector. Is Nigel John still a possibility? Bit of a pipe-dream but it'd be cool if Fardaws Aimaq decided he wants to step up a level and join with a fellow Muslim at USU.

Re: New guy
I also think Ashworth is going to develop well. His biggest problem this last year seemed to be that he wasn't ready for the athleticism of D1 basketball, especially when driving to the hoop. He seems quick enough to be a decent point guard along with Eytle-Rock. He's also a pretty good shooter. He just got off a mission, let's give him a season or two more before writing him off as a decent point guard.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 24th, 2021, 1:18 amWe have that in Eytle-Rock. Wasn’t at all who I was referring to. To me, it should be obvious who is unlikely to ever pan out and I shouldn’t have to make any digs at them on the message board. We have two players who fit this category, IMO.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 24th, 2021, 12:47 amAgreed, Miller should hit the trail, especially with a bum back.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑April 23rd, 2021, 11:46 pmIt’s growing on me. But if there is a real chance he can’t go and we are “just waiting and seeing,” then I agree, in that scenario, I hope Brock moves on for his own health and so we’re not in a pinch where we are losing a starter quality player at a time when we have no way to adequately replace him.
It’s not fair to the team to leave things hanging, IMO, even though I hope Brock is back if healthy.

So has Zee not played competitively since 2019? I suppose COVID-19 probably shut down the 2020 FIBA tournament.
Wish we had more to go on here. I am sure the coaches must see something special.

National news in Bahrain. Sounds like it’s true — he’s Bahrain’s first D1 men’s basketball player. That angle is pretty cool.

Most of the highlights I’ve seen on Zee, he is 15 or 16 years old. I think he is going to do just fine at USU.

Re: New guy
I don't see that in his game at all. I would describe him as crafty, sort of Harden like. Not someone who is going to get by many guards in the MWC and will also struggle to stay in front of the quicker guards on D. He's not an above-the-rim player and he knows his limitations so he uses his bigger body and ball fakes to get his shot off.OrangeCountyAggie wrote: ↑April 24th, 2021, 1:18 amWe have that in Eytle-Rock. Watching some of the UMBC games it appears that Odom usually had another guard on floor which allowed RJ to play off the ball. Our UMBC guest has already commented that RJ is good at team defense but lacks lateral quickness to guard quick PGs 1 v 1.
Losing Rollie and Marco means we're down 2 of our 3 main ball handlers and we've only replaced them with 1 in RJ. Are we going to rely on the 2 we have (Ashworth and Eytle-Rock) all season or do we expect others like Shulga or Bairstow to become main ball handlers next season? If so, I think we're in trouble.
I'm glad we added RJ but I see him as the replacement for Marco - not as tall or as good of an individual defender but a better offensive player with equal or perhaps better ball handling skills.

Re: New guy
Bairstow needs to be kept as far away from primary ball-handling duties as possible. He can be a useful player, but not in this area. We need another ballhandler. I like Ashworth, but I’m not at all comfortable with him and RJ being the only guys capable of primary ball-handling duties.Aglicious wrote: ↑April 24th, 2021, 12:59 pmI don't see that in his game at all. Do not be surprised though when we do not fill this need and Akin from UMBC is our final addition.

I’m very high on Eytle-Rock but he is not a primary ball handler. I think we need an impact PG transfer in a bad way. But, maybe Ashworth will make a huge leap forward

Just a couple weeks ago many of us were saying to use our 4 schollies on two all conference mid/low majors, one P5 bencher, and a high potential high schooler. Well, 3 down and 1 to go. I think Zee is a good pick-up in regards to a hs developmental player. Although I think I’d rather have a proven mid-major PG transfer than a P5 bencher for the last schollie spot.

Can we stop talking about Nigel John? We don’t need a big guy that left us to go to a weaker program in a weaker league, and put up unimpressive statistics. I’d rather have Akin, and I really don’t think he is the answer either.
There are a bunch of 3* PF’s in the portal that would be the answer to what we need.

From the limited video I’ve seen, it looks like he has a ton of potential. It seems like he has athleticism AND skill. I’ve got to think Odom had the input of his NBA scout brother and dad.

Nigel went to a junior college and he's glad he did. He believes it has helped him grow and develop as a player and a student. And guess what? He is still VERY interested in Utah State.mcaggie1 wrote: ↑April 24th, 2021, 5:55 pmCan we stop talking about Nigel John? Signed with Washington State in hs, changed his mind and got out of that LOI. Signed with USU, changed his mind and got out of that LOI. John then went to Clarendon JC in Texas, but didn't play a game this season. He isn't even on the roster. My eyes are being blinded by flashing red lights.

Nigel John: He originally commited to USU, then Washington State, then landed at Eastern Oklahoma State JC. He has started 9 of 16 games this year for the JC and is averaging 8.2 ppg, 7.8 rpg, and shooting 51% FG. His team is 8-8 & still has 4 games left.

He was verbally committed to Washington State and decommitted once the coach was fired. He signed with us during the early signing period in November.SeldomSeenSmith wrote: ↑April 25th, 2021, 6:49 amSigned with Washington State in hs, changed his mind and got out of that LOI.
