New Unis?
Let's get down to the real meat and potatoes, it wouldn't be the start of a new season without some good ol' uniform discussion!
So here's my question: Why, for the love of all that is holy, are we putting our guys back in those bacon neck retro unis for a 3rd year in a row?
Were they cool for one year? yeah.
Was it cool that Sam helped design them? yeah.
Is it a look that we should be still promoting or embracing as a norm? hell no.
Have the uniforms worn well or stood up to 3 years of abuse? nope, at this point they look like some used uniforms from the 60's that we happened to come across in a dusty box down at Goodwill.
Sorry, but our uniform game is pretty weak in both basketball and football right now. I know Hartwell is a penny-pincher but c'mon man - stretching multiple years out of these uniforms for the two major sports we showcase on TV is sad. The players and fans deserve better.

I love everything about those uniforms except for the bacon neck. lolAglicious wrote: ↑October 22nd, 2021, 9:29 amLet's get down to the real meat and potatoes, it wouldn't be the start of a new season without some good ol' uniform discussion!

Re: New Unis?
i actually like the basketball uniforms. I think it is time for new ones after this year. The football uniforms are really bad. When they got new uniforms i think 2012 I really like those ones.

Re: New Unis?
I would suspect that coming out of a year where from a budget perspective the athletic department needed to save money everywhere they could, and on top of that Nike experiencing a global supply chain disruption as a result of their inability to staff their production facilities, getting new uniforms for this year was not in the cards.

I agree with this! Revenue was likely down from Covid year. Supply Chain is a mess. Totally makes sense to not upgrade jerseys this year.rAggie wrote: ↑October 22nd, 2021, 10:18 amI would suspect that coming out of a year where from a budget perspective the athletic department needed to save money everywhere they could, and on top of that Nike experiencing a global supply chain disruption as a result of their inability to staff their production facilities, getting new uniforms for this year was not in the cards.

Re: New Unis?
Except for numerous programs around the country rolling out new jerseys every year for their programs I would agree.rAggie wrote: ↑October 22nd, 2021, 10:18 amI would suspect that coming out of a year where from a budget perspective the athletic department needed to save money everywhere they could, and on top of that Nike experiencing a global supply chain disruption as a result of their inability to staff their production facilities, getting new uniforms for this year was not in the cards.
For football, I know there is a big cost associated to get one whole new uni combo for the entire team but for basketball? 15 jerseys? I would have to think even using the used ones from 3-4 years ago with the actual AGGIES font on them would look better than the shape the retro ones are in. I don't think saving the cost of 15 (or even 30 if you want home & away versions) basketball jerseys is going to be the tipping point for having saved enough $$$ for bigger facility projects. Not to mention, I don't believe there has been a single facility upgrade or improvement done under Hartwell...I know, that's another discussion that will end with many people declaring how many wonderful things he is doing "behind the scenes".

As long as we're getting to the championship game in these jerseys, don't change a dang thing.

Re: New Unis?
I don’t so much care if we change the design of the basketball unis, but agree they look somewhat ratty and not good in promos. I liked the design of the basketball uniforms initially, but they’ve not aged well, IMO, both in terms of design and the actual fabric. I guess I’d prefer we change it up.
The football uniform condition and uniform designs are both pretty terrible.
Why are we paying for uniforms? What is the point of the free advertising we give Nike if they aren’t supplying FREE uniforms EVERY year. I don’t understand why these deals require us to buy product we are going to be wearing on TV and that I’m sure is not at all expensive for Nike to manufacture.
Sounds like it’s time to switch to Adidas. Adidas deals are universally better for the schools and more lucrative than the Nike deals, IIRC.

We used to have them once upon a time, I remember we wore them after Danny Berger had a stroke or that heart attack or whatever it was. But I honestly don’t understand boise, byu, Fresno, unlv, all of them have more then 3 jerseys. I remember I got blasted for asking for the pewter jerseys but the Rachel Harris girl and said I "could personally fund the uniforms" if I wanted the pewter jerseys back. We are one broke AD department

Seriously how much could it be for a basketball team? I cannot imagine it's that much for basketball uniforms. Does USU buy the athletes sleeves and shoes etc for basketball?Notatrueaggie wrote: ↑October 22nd, 2021, 5:01 pmWe used to have them once upon a time, I remember we wore them after Danny Berger had a stroke or that heart attack or whatever it was. I don't care about uniforms unless they are really awful. I can't stand white outs, black outs and stadium stripes.

Re: New Unis?
The football uniforms looked ruffffff tonight in HD. It looks like every player had a small child rub snot all over the shoulder pad portion of the uniforms.
I just don’t get why Nike isn’t springing to send us brand new ones EVERY year. What is the point of the deal with Nike if that isn’t a thing that is happening?

Why do we have to pay for uniforms from Nike? We are providing them with advertising. Are they not “sponsoring” us?

If this is still how our deal is still structured with Nike, it’s honestly pretty (I can't express myself without swearing). Why is UNLV getting treated so much better?

WTF has happened to our Nike deal? This is really disappointing, I had heard we were switching to underarmour what happened to that? When we rebranded with the new logo we had beautiful and really NA harp looking unis , I’m not a fan of the most recent ones at all and now seeing the Nike money numbers really just pisses me off!!!coolag wrote: ↑October 26th, 2021, 6:37 pmWow charlie really came through for us.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑October 23rd, 2021, 4:42 pmhttps://www.al.com/sports/2014/01/how_m ... for_s.html

Re: New Unis?
Well, if we are only getting a discount on product it would make sense why we haven’t gotten new uniforms in either major sport for a while.
Why are we paying for uniforms when Hawaii is getting paid to wear UA? Is that really the best offer we got?
Barf.
The state of our uniforms in both major sports is just sad. Not just the designs, but the condition. I’m also not sure why we seem to only be able to get one new set when we do get new ones. We’ve been rocking the current set for football since 2018, so we’re on year 4.
We should get FULL new sets in both sports at least every other year, if not every year.

Re: New Unis?
This thread has become a conversation with myself about my OCD, so I promise I will stop after this, but the quoted portion above really nailed it with the basketball uniforms.
I’m not crazy about a throwback being a primary uniform ever, but the biggest problem isn’t necessarily the throwback design, it’s the material and cut chosen for the uniforms. It’s like Sam chose throwback materials in addition to just a throwback design.
The uniforms look to be made of thicker and heavier material than most modern basketball uniforms, and have stitching rather than screen printing everywhere. They look heavy, appear to soak up sweat, go all bacon-neck, and you can see stitching fraying or coming apart in places if you look closely. Honestly, just a horrible choice by Sam on the material and cut of the uniforms. I am fine with a throwback design on a modern uniform, but the throwback design on a throwback uniform isn’t a good look and hasn’t aged well. Every other team has modern looking uniforms with screen printing and ours just stand out as weird.
I also think having throwbacks as the primary uniform is a bit on the nose and slightly awkward given the current lack of diversity on the team. They just look like uniforms a team full of white kids would wear, and, well, we have a team of mostly white kids.
I also don’t like that they don’t use the proprietary Utah State font or our logo really anywhere.
Okay, I’ll be done now. And I’ll never say another bad word about Sam.

"Sam designed them" was about the only thing still going for them. Just doesn't make a ton of sense to have a throwback as anything but a one off uniform.

Re: New Unis?
The is an honest question and not trying to stir up controversy or take this thread to the sandbox. What in your mind would constitute diversity? Is it skin color or cultural background, life experiences etc? Certainly the team is made up of a bunch of white guys, but diversity in my opinion can be from where they come from as well. This team has players from England, Netherlands, Ukraine, Poland, Australia and Bahrain. Not knowing all college teams, but I would guess having players from 6 different countries outside the USA on 1 team would be rare or very few teams would have that.ineptimusprime wrote: ↑October 26th, 2021, 11:40 pmThis thread has become a conversation with myself about my OCD, so I promise I will stop after this, but the quoted portion above really nailed it with the basketball uniforms.
