We should. We get more home games and more basketball is more basketball.

I really hope we would accept. More playing time is always a good thing.

Do you think Bean would play? Or do you think he'd focus on getting in pro-form? I think the rest of the seniors would play.

Re: Will we accept an invite
Doesn’t the MWC not want its schools to accept invites to these two? Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but I thought I remember them discouraging any teams from participating.

We should definitely play, but if history is any indication, with one or two exceptions, we tend to mail it in in these tournaments.

Re: Will we accept an invite
The last one we were in we played for the championship I believe. Was that the CBI? We played Mercer and lost by a couple points at the last second. That was a really fun tournament to attend; all our games were at home, if I remember right.

Re: Will we accept an invite
I’m not sure which of the two it was, but when we played Mercer at home in the tournament final it was the 2011-12 season. I believe we beat Oakland at home on a rare Sunday home game in the Semifinals and scored over 100 points if I recall. Certainly I was happy to see a few more games at home that year, so if the opportunity comes I’d welcome more games.

Re: Will we accept an invite
I think he'd play. I mean how many college basketball players would turn down an opportunity to win the CIT or CBI? Not to mention Bean is a first team MWC player. He could easily be the CIT or CBI Tournament MVP.trevordude wrote: ↑March 1st, 2022, 12:45 pmDo you think Bean would play? Or do you think he'd focus on getting in pro-form? Re: Will we accept an invite
It was a one and done. I think we opened with Santa Clara (maybe?) and did play Oakland, who was regularly putting up 100 points. As someone pointed out, we just blew their doors off, scoring well over 100.

Re: Will we accept an invite
I would hope that we'd accept any invite we get. Wyoming won the tourney in 2017 and Nevada in 2016. These tournaments are about giving your young players more experience especially in a tournament situation.

Re: Will we accept an invite
What if we went on a run in the MW tourney but couldn’t quite win it all and snuck into the NIT as a #8 seed and played #1 seed BYU. Or possibly play them sometime in the NIT if we managed to win a game or two. I think BYU barely gets into the tourney though.
Re: Will we accept an invite
What players do you expect to be back next year. I have Ashworth, Jones, Dorius, Homoda, Potter. So I don’t a lot of young players are getting experience.ProvoAggie wrote: ↑March 1st, 2022, 8:39 pmI would hope that we'd accept any invite we get. Re: Will we accept an invite
I’m really not into the NIT, CBI, CIT, etc. I’d rather make the NCAA tourney and lose in the 1st round than win one of those other tournaments. I’m probably in the minority, but those tourneys are almost meaningless to me. It’s all about the dance!
If I were a recruit and I could join a team that had made the NCAA tourney 5 of the past 7 seasons or I could join a team that had won the CIT tourney 5 of the past 7 seasons… it would be an easy decision, all other things being equal.
I’m on the fence when it comes time to decide whether to play in a lesser tourney or to just end the season.

I agree that I'd rather make the dance than win one of these other tourney's...but that doesn't mean I don't want one of these tourney's when we don't make the dance. Several teams have been able to gain experience in these tourneys and come back better the next year.Pacobag wrote: ↑March 1st, 2022, 9:31 pmI’m really not into the NIT, CBI, CIT, etc. I’d rather make the NCAA tourney and lose in the 1st round than win one of those other tournaments. Or a team that has been/(would have) been in three straight ncaa tourneys then win the cbit instead of just falling off the bball radar

Re: Will we accept an invite
More chances to win....a good thing. This team was so close to being a tournament team. I'd like them to have the chance to prop that up to hopefully aid in recruiting.

Or scored 20 more points in those 5 games. Pretty close in my book.

Re: Will we accept an invite
It seemed like the wind went out of the sails after the St Mary’s loss. Win that game in OT and maybe we have a little more swagger in all our close games. Impossible to say for sure but I will say that game still ticks me off.

Re: Will we accept an invite
We were two players away from being a tourney team. We needed one guy who could create a shot, and a true 5 that was playable to back up Horvath. Add that to the mix and we have a completely different season
Honestly, we’d solidly be in the NIT field had Brock Miller either had been able to play all season or had hung ‘em up after last season (basically, if we just had a starting quality 2 guard healthy all season).
Lot of woulda-coulda-shouldas. We rolled out a really weirdly limited and constructed team for Bean’s last hurrah.

Re: Will we accept an invite
I believe Colorado St. is a great example of this. Advanced to Semifinals in last year's NIT. I saw them as a much more disciplined team this season than in past campaigns; which I attribute to gaining experience in more of those pressure situations from the NIT tourney run. Kept their composure much better this year in tight games....ProvoAggie wrote: ↑March 1st, 2022, 10:03 pmI agree that I'd rather make the dance than win one of these other tourney's...but that doesn't mean I don't want one of these tourney's when we don't make the dance. I say "yes" to an NIT invite for the Aggies. It can only help development.

Re: Will we accept an invite
Obviously we would accept an nit invite. It is the cit/cbi we would probably turn down if the last decade is any indication. Since an nit invite is unlikely, we are probably looking at our last few days of basketball.Winkie wrote: ↑March 9th, 2022, 9:37 amI believe Colorado St. is a great example of this.
